Oh Bacchanale--I can see your problem about training her! She's ADORABLE. Did you say she was the runt of the litter? They often seem to get an overdose of charm! <IMG SRC="http://dachsie.org/ubb/cwmsmilies/cwm34.gif" border=0>

She is a cutie. Her eye problems are not that obvious in the pictures.
As far as adding a second dog I too would suggest you wait for a while especially if this is your first ever dog. We all learn from our experiences with our companions and yet each new buddy presents their own unique challenges. Dachshunds are in general very sociable pack animals and will thrive on a lot of attention which can come either from their human pack or from another companion dog. Frank was thrilled when I brought Tanner into our home but that doesn't prevent him from being jealous of my attention when I try to hold or pet Tanner. Tanner and I almost have to sneak our private times when Frank is busy with a chewie. Both boys love time with me (I'm single no other human in the house) they also will play and sometimes even nap together. I feel a lot less guilty when I can't spend time with them that I did when I just had one dog.
Best wishes,
Tom and the boys (Frank and Tanner)
