Hi, Just wanted to introduce myself. I have been a Dachshund fancier since 1971. I raise, show, and occasionally breed. I work in rescue as time allows. My favorites of the breed are the standard wirehairs. I currently have 4 here at home and am owner of 2 others. Also expecting a litter the first of December, last litter is 3 1/2. I also work with the elderly and occasionally a terminally ill client as a home helper/companion. I keep very, very busy and I am on the road alot with the dogs but will be looking in on the board as often as time allows.

Hi, Gringo1, and welcome to the board! http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/wavey.gif
Sounds like you have a busy and fulfilling life! I do rescue too and just placed the most bee-YOOOOOO-tee-ful standard wirehair with a very nice young family here in Chicago. He looks like show quality to me and is a perfect punkin' of a dog. Thing is, he gets lots of admiration on the street, but nobody knows what he is.... http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/uh-oh.gif
We have another wirehair breeder on the board, and it's great to have you. Look forward to hearing your perspective on things!

Pamela,
Thank you for the welcome.
I know that, in general, the public doesn't know what the wires are. I like that, gives me a chance to engage them in conversation and possibly do a little educating. Plus, I can never be bored with the topic of dachshunds!

Never bored with the topic of Dachshunds? http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/lol.gif You've come to the RIGHT place! I say, you can NEVER have too many dachshund friends! http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/biggrin.gif Of course my family thinks I've cracked a nut with my addiction, but OH WELL!!! Sure makes ME happy! I hope you will be happy here too. I'm owned by 3 year old Dolly (red/brindle smoothie small standard) and 2 year old Madison (b/t smooth mini). Along with hubby Mark, they are the loves of my life.

http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/wavey.gif Hi gringo1 and welcome! http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/wavey.gif
We're glad you're here! I'll bet you have a lot of stories to share and I am looking forward to reading them. We have 2 Mini Wirehairs and a Catahoula. They are Duck Butter, Masse and the Catahoula is Top Spin. What are the names of your 4?

Guess I should introduce the hounds so people might know who I am talking about. My alpha is Sinni and mother of all my other wires, she is 8. Then we have the Goddess, Emma or Em 4 1/2, and hopefully expecting. The boys are most often referred to as "The Baskervilles", they are Deiter and Gus, both 3 1/2 and litter mates. Also in residence is Molly, 12 year old Pembroke Welsh Corgi. Molly has cancer and has been living on borrowed time for a long time now. Most recent (and unwanted addition) is my daughter's pit bull, Bridgett. Bridgett is getting older and has turned dog aggressive so keeps things really interesting here.
The two not in residence are my Champion boys, Fritz and Dirk. Also littermates to Deiter and Gus. One resides with my oldest daughter in Nebraska and the other is in Tucson, AZ.
Hi again,
That is quite a Motely Crue you have there. http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/lol.gif How is Sinni pronounced? Is it like Winnie? Masse is pronounced mass-say. http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/smile.gif
I'm sorry to hear about Molly. The Pembroke is the tailless Corgi, isn't it? Char (my wife) had the one with the tail (whichever that is) when we met.
I'll try visiting your site later today when I open IE or Netscape 6 . . . I tried it with Netscape 4.76 and when I clicked a link to another page, once there, my browser crashed. http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/frown.gif I'll have to add your site to my list of sites to use Netscape 6 or IE with.
Thanks for intoducing your kids and we look forward to hearing more!

Hi Mark,
Thank you for the Welcome. Nice to have so many welcome the newcomer!
Yes, Sinni is pronounced like Winnie. It is just a shortened version of her reg. name.
The Pembroke is the tailess Corgie and the Cardigan is the one with a tail. Molly is the resident 'groomer'. It's a daily routine that all the 'hounds' line up for their turn to have her wash faces and ears. She grumbles at each one but then washes them all into bad hair days. If only I could teach her to lick those beards and eyebrows into the shape they should be!
Hi gringo1,
What is your opinion on why Molly washes the others? Is there a pack related reason for that, that you know of?
If you have any luck teaching her to groom them properly . . . let me know and we'll try to teach Top Spin to groom our girls. http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/lol.gif After that if we can teach him to strip their coats and trim their nails we'll have it made! http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/biggrin.gif

Mark,
I think it is just Molly's 'thing'. She has done the grooming bit since we first brought in dachshunds. I think she is just a frustrated 'mother wanna be'<IMG SRC="http://dachsie.org/ubb/cwmsmilies/cwm38.gif" border=0> . She puts on quite an ugly display prior to grooming each one....snarls, grasps their head in her mouth and then grooms. The first time I saw her do this to one of the pups at about 3 months of age or less, I panicked but then saw she doesn't hurt them, only makes a scene. It's obvious she loves doing it, but seems she must grumble at them first. Probably is telling them, "I'm not your mother, why do you always want me to do this!"
Thanks . . . I was just curious.
I'd better let this thread get back to normal now! http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/biggrin.gif

Welcome gringo1 & co.
We have a mini-wire who's just a pip. I don't know about the others but I'd pay to see a picture of that grooming exercise! <IMG SRC="http://dachsie.org/ubb/cwmsmilies/cwm27.gif" border=0>
