I want to buy one soon.... but I'm wondering from those of you that use them if there's anything specific I should look for when buying one. Do those of you who use them find their pups do better with a dremel over nail clippers? Any tips? :D

You can get either corded or cordless-personal preference, I guess. I just like the fact that I can take it outside to do their nails so not to get the dust inside; I also take it to work to do their nails outside. Though that convenience does have one drawback: always replacing the batteries.
My two hated the guillotine type, so when I got the dremel, threw it out along with the nail file (dremel will also smooth and shape the nails nicely.)
My boy is not too thrilled about this either, but it's easier than grabbing the foot, trying to measure with the guillotine clipper, then cut. Just start slowly. So as not to stress him out too much, I don't do all feet in the same session. Maybe one day the front feet, then another day the back. My girl doesn't freak out as much as he does, so I can do all of her nails at once.

and I like it. But Beckie bought the bigger one with with the case and it's quieter, holds a charge longer and is awesome.

I bought the 10.8V Dremel Lithium-ion Cordless
It holds a charge a long time and recharging doesn't take very long. Comes with lots of grindy things that you could use with other projects. It also has a wide range of speeds. I got it at Lowes can't remember the price but it wasn't all that much... less than the Oster nail grinder that was at PetsMart.

I would look at Lowes and Home Depot...I bet walmart carries them too. I have not tried it yet. I think I would opt for the cordless one although I can see the problems with batteries. I can just imagine Ally getting all cought up in the cord.

I haven't tried it yet...still trying to figure out if Ally would tollerate it. She hates (and hates isn't even a strong enough word) to have her nails done. I have got to find somthing else that will work.

I tried filing them but she hated that too...I guess that's why I'm not sure if she'd tolerate the dremel.

Good luck...I am keeping :crsfnger: for you...please let me know how Joey and Toby like it.

I have an old one with the cord. If I would buy one now it would be cordless. It would just be easier with one less thing in the way.
As a warning those of you that have dogs with longer hair. Especially if they put their nose down by the dremmel when you are doing it. Remeber that the hair will and can rip right off with skin attached. You don't hear of it happening to often. But I would hate to have any accidents. I know my dogs think they have to watch me while I use it. I used to always trim the excess hair between toes before I used it on my LH doxies.
Don't let this scare you just be careful.

I'm glad you mentioned that!

I never even thought of looking at Lowes and Home Depot... we actually have one of each of those nearby (Walmart too but it's too crowded). Thanks for mentioning those.

I think Toby will be pretty good with the dremel once we gets used to it.... as it is now, he just let's me flop him over on his back and let's me trim him without any fuss at all.... Joey's a bit less tolerant but hopefully it'll be something he can get used to. Their nails just seem so sharp after trimming them with clippers. I've seen nails after they've been dremelled (is that a word, lol) and they look so great. I'll let you know how it works out.

:thanx: for the advice from all of you.
