About a month or so ago I wrote in here about a dog in my complex that the owners did not take care of.

They let him run loose all day while they are not home. The dog has really bad skin, the hair is real thin, and he has fleas something awful. I snooped around and asked the neighbors about it. They all said that he is always running loose, but the kids are really attached to him. I let it go for a little while so the owner would not get suspicious of me.

I just took my son for a walk and I saw this dog again, this tiem he almost got hit be a car.

That did it, the Aminal Shelter is on its way to pick him up before the kid gets home from school. I told them I found the dog in th emiddle of the road and he had no tags. Also told the shelter about how bad shape he was in.

They just knocked at my door to get the little dog. The man from the shelter said he has really bad skin from flea bites.

They will hold him for 7 days to give the SCUM owners a chance to pick him up. Hopefully that wont happen. The man told me that they have a long list of people who want little dogs like this one. Looks like a full breed Peakenease (I know I spelt that one wrong).

I feel so good that this little guy will get a good bath and warm bed, and hopefully a new loving home. If people can not take care of their dog, they have no right owning one!!!!

I will call the shelter next week to check on him. Pray I do not find him wondering the streets again back in the hands of these people.

Linda

Good for you. You did the right thing. It might wake the owners up. Better yet they might decide that someone else could care for it much better then they did. And it may have given them an out without being the bad guys to the kids.

I think you did the right thing too. Those folks are prob. just as concerned for their kids as they are for the dog. More excuses not to take care of the little guy.

Hope this works out well for the peke.

If you find that the original owners got him back, e-mail me for some devious ideas.

On behalf of the little Peke, I thank you for doing what you did. I'm sure he would thank you, too.

Well done, Linda! http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/bounce.gif

It takes some gumption to make calls like that when your neighbors are involved. Good for you!!!

I am so proud of you! You truly care about animals and are willing to do what it takes. Please let us know what happens to the little dog you fearlessly rescued from an abusive home. From Toby and Mom Heather

You are the kind of role model that we need and that I wish were publicized. 999 our of 1000 people think "too bad" but go on their way. Thanks for being a read advocate for animals. Every little step helps and perhaps encourages someone else to take a step also.

Linda,

Your couragous move is now going to impact another doggie. You've inspired me to call Animal Control on one of my neighboors. I've been debating about weather or not to do, but you have convinced me. Their golden retreiver runs lose all of the time and has almost been hit by many cars (I witnessed a near collision with a school bus). Whenever I see the dog running lose, I put the dog in my car and return it to the people. They just let it back out again.

Thanks,

Jennifer

Here is an update:

Come to find out my next door neighbor was at a birthday party in my complex on Saturday(the day after the dog was picked up). The owner of this dog was also at the party with his kids. The kids were talking about it then the adults got into the conversation. Seems that ever yone in that part of the neighborhood thinks they know who called Animal Control. They all think it is this older man that complains about everything.

My neighbor sat and played dumb taking all of this in. The one lady (who is a firend of the owners) said " How can he do that, this is the neighborhood dog". Then the owner (Paul) says " I do not blame the person for calling, I know I have neglected the dog and its all my fault". The he went into the whole "because of the divorce thing". He also said " I should have taken better care of the dog, because the kids love him so much".

To make a long story short, they were going to pick him up on Monday . So the dog will go back to these people.

Now I am thinking (praying) that this Paul guy has seen the light. He knows that it was only a matter of time before this would happen. I am going to keep watching and keeping my eye out. At least the little dog got a nice flea bath. The Shelter will let the owner know when they pick him up and pay $25, that the dog has been very neglected . And if the pick him up again it is a larger fine. If the dog is picked up 3 times they take him to court.

Now, I am hoping no one finds out it was me who called. If they do I will simply say" I did not know I was picking up someones dog, I thought I was picking up a stray dog with NO TAGS, FLEAS, SKIN PROBLEMS , ECT....... I was only a concerned animal lover". Now if they love this neighborhood dog so much they should Thank me!

I will keep you all posted.

Linda
