Miss Abigail

Miss Abigail went to the bridge tonight at 11 p.m. Mom and dad told her that it was okay to go to heaven and play with Corianne, and 5 minutes later, she passed on. She's buried by Corie now, by the rosebush. I guess it was her time to go...we had 15 great years with her. I grew up with her...I was 8 years old when we got her. She will certainly be missed. :(

Thank you to everyone for sending Abby healing rayz during the past two weeks. I had a feeling that she was nearing the rainbow bridge. She couldn't stand or walk, and wouldn't potty or drink water yesterday. She stopped eating 3 days ago. Our wonderful vet called every couple of days to check on her. She told us there was nothing else she could do for Abby. She put her on meds to try to help her feel better and start eating again. We had a couple of good days early last week, but she quickly deteriorated as the weekend approached.

When I took Abby to bed with me last night around 10:15pm, I wrapped her in her blanket (shown in Kari's first photo), laid beside her face to face and told her that she was a good girl, we loved her very much, we were sorry she was sick, and it was okay to go to the bridge to be with Corianne (her daughter) whenever she was ready. I startled awake shortly before 11:00pm to her gasping for breath. My DH came upstairs and we both petted her, told her that we loved her, and it was okay to go. She stopped breathing and her heart stopped beating about 5 minutes later. We buried her in the backyard at midnight beside Corianne.

I will always remember her mischeviousness and her love of Q-Tips and toilet paper. She would dig them out of the trash and run under the bed where I couldn't reach her.

Rest in peace, Miss Abby. :angel: Have lots of fun laying in the sun with Corianne, Lady (my family's first dachsie), Buffy (Tyler's mommy), Spanky (Tyler's sister), and Katie Ruth.

Thank you all so much for your sympathy, hugs, and for lighting the candles for Abby. It has been a rough day following a very short night of sleep. We will really miss Abby and Corianne but are very thankful for the many years we had with both of them. It has been very hard losing two dachsies within 9 months. We have many good memories though. Abby and Corianne were our mischievious ones.

Through tears, I am writing of my sympathy for you and your family. I grew up with a standard black and tan named Fritzi and his loss at age 13 (his age) was my first experience with losing a pet. You are being very brave, knowing it was time to say good bye. I admire your courage and strength. What a beautiful girl she was and now she is running free.
