I so wish I could go! If only I knew about it earlier but we planned on helping out my mil with her floor! Next year, I wish there could be a dachshund meeting in Kalamazoo or Lansing.

We got back from the Dachsie Fest this afternoon. It was fun but exhausting, especially for my wife. We got a few folks who had dachshunds at the Jellystone, but were not aware of the Dachsiefest, to come along too. :) We did meet the pres. of DRNA Jill and her husband, Allen? (I'm terrible with names.) at Jellystone, they had a whole crew with them.

Ozzy was in a frenzy the whole time. We got him a hug-a-dox that fits his personality quite well, it has flames all over it. Last time he saw so many dogs was one of his stints in a shelter. Lets say he's a bit hoarse today from an incredible amount of barking. My poor wife was about in tears and no amount of water, cuddling, sternness, etc. would quiet him. The other two were pretty good, but went along with Ozzy much of the time.

I was amazed at how many people just walk up to an x-pen and stick a hand in. Our sneaky girl Peanut nipped at a few, further stressing my wife. Bubba was the lover he always is, wanting to be held and give kisses. The squirt bottle trick, which used to work with Ozzy, was a garden hose before an inferno. He was soaking wet and loud and pround. We think he was just nuts to see all the other dogs. His hair never got up and his tail was wagging like a flail. Either way, the old boy wore us out and we headed back to the camp in the afternoon. We'll be getting a super-soaker for Ozz-man and really start working with him in earnest. A few folks suggested muzzle training him, basically deny him the ability to bark at full voice. Not sure I want to go that far yet.

I wouldn't go for the muzzle.

I had Buck at a doggie meeting a week ago and he barked like he was out of his mind.. Wouln't even take a treat. I was so embarrassed!! He was overcome with a strange place & seeing so many strange dogs & his brother Oscar wasn't with him.

Ok - I'm not one to give up. Took him back this week & he barked a couple of times when we first got there - and then he was such a good boy.

I think just repeating the experience will do the trick.Hope you won't even need to use the super-soaker the next time!! Give him a few shots at home to see how it works. :D

I know you must be exhausted from the experience!! I know the feeling. Shame does that to you!! :D :D

Ben, It was wonderful to hear all about the fun time you guys had. I so understand your wife being stressed. That is how I would be with my pups, a nervous wreck. Sounds like everything went well.

Ben,

Glad you got to go and had a great time. Sorry your wife stressed. I would not worry about Ozzy, he will be fine. I hate muzzels.

BTW, Jill's husband is Niel but he responds to most anything.

I so wanted to take Ringo to this event!! But I have health problems, and when the day came it was so humid, which makes me very sick, so in the end I couldn't go. Hopefully it'll be drier next year! Unfortunately I was expecting a package from Korea that day as well, and no one else could stay home to get it :( I guess it just wasn't meant to be this time. Sounds like it was fun though.
