I am a new member but have been reading the posts here for the last several weeks. My wife and I are in the custody of two babies that we recently adopted.

Our first baby is a red Smoothie that came into our home back in October. Her name is Suzie and is now a year old just last Saturday the 21st.

On Thursday of last week we (don't know how to say it) adopted or rescue a 11 month old red piebald from a family that was abusing the little guy. His name is Caesar and he is a very loving baby. The previous owners paid $400 for him and we brought him home for $150. He is under weight and will be going to the vet tomorrow for his first check up. I will be taking in a stool sample with me.

Today I took both of them to the park and we play for a couple of hours and now they are both a sleep.

Glad to see how so many of you care about these little guys. I read with interest about Buddy. Way to go Augie Dad and Mandy. Till next time 2DachieDad

Hi, and Welcome, Lili, my little piebald girl is happy to see another of her kind. She is a red piebald with white that is so ticked she almost appears solid red. She is a little love and rules our house. This board is full of great information. I entered the dachsie world about a year ago and was totally ignorant about anything dachsie except their cute ways and how loving they were. Good luck with your babies........Shirley and Lili

Welcome to the board!
I have a miniature smooth Dachshund named Timber The Digger. We compete in junior showmanship. Our next show is June 2.
Congrats on your new rescue Dachshund! I would love to get another one to show in AKC conformation, but, in addition to Timber, we have 4 cats.

Sorry that I have not seen your entry on to the board.

The first thing to do it get that pupper to a vet. Buddy came from DRNA. Everything was checked out before hand, even then, I got him to my vet to get his records there and up to date.

Buddy and Augie are doing fine. We have done a lot of work with him, much of it just talking to him and making him feel that he is part of something, a pack. A pupper that has been neglected is lonely and may have giving up on being loved. Once Buddy found out that no one was going to hurt him anymore and that this was HIS house and HIS yard and HIS toys, well, he worships us.

Welcome to the board, you got questions, we got answers.

The trip to the vet went well. We were told that Caesar has allergies and is not on eyes drops for the next two weeks, three times a day and a pill for the next ninty days, once a day. Fun in our house is a little more than most of you as we live in a fifth wheel trailer. Try having two young doxies that want to play all the time and want to be under your feet too. Nightime is the most fun as going to bed is a chore. Both want to sleep next to Mom and I but there is only so much room on a Queen bed in a trailer. Other than that everything is going great and we will keep working with Caesar and his fear of people.

It was nice chatting with you Sunday night. If you run into any problems getting those pills down a trick my mother use to use with our dachshunds when I was growing up was to burry the pill in peanut butter on a small piece of bread. Our one dog that could and would sort pills out of meat or cheese could never get the pill out of the peanut butter.

Welcome, 2Dachsiedad, spouse, Suzie and Caesar! I also have a recommendation for pill-taking. I get cheese (usually single slices), take one and fold it until I get enough pieces for everyone (I have 3 red smooth minis - so if someone doesn't get medicine, she still gets cheese!) and the dachsie with meds gets one piece plain, and the 2nd with meds VERY quickly = no problem! Again welcome! Julia B. & the girls - Heidi, Gretl, and Siglen

Thanks for the info about how to get Caesar to take his pill but we haven't had a problem because we are mixing it in with his kibble and cottage cheese. He must think that it is some of the kibble because we haven't found the pill in the bowl by itself yet.

Now for the GOOD NEWS!!!!! Caesar went up to one of the construction guys that lives in the RV park and licked his hand. This may not seem like a big thing to some of you but when we first got him he would hide behind me and not go near anyone. He even nipped a one of the ladies in the park. I must say that the people who live in the RV Park are being very understanding toward Caesar and are hoping that he comes around to being the furbaby that he should be. Some of the people in the park are beginning to call Suzie-Manager and Caesar-Asst. Manager.

Keep thinking good thoughts and hope that we will have Caesar greeting everyone like Suzie does.
