I have several xpens that I usually take and set up. Bring some lawn chairs and you can set up in with us! Several of us from our meetup group usually get together. You can come to my house and follow me over that day if you want. That way the pups can play at the house for a little while. In fact any out of towners are welcome to come by so we can all meet! I live about 5 miles from the event location.

Since I am one of the event organizators, I will be there from beginning to end. You can normally find me hanging around the DRNA Fundraising Booth. Taking care of it has been my "job" from the first event.

We have a great time and have a lot of nice vendors.

Here is the link in case anyone is interested,

We are coming. I am trying to talk Janet into coming to so we can carpool from Canada.

I have absolutely promised Heidi's former foster mom that we will come so Mardy can see her "Hi Girl" again.

If I have a foster, it will be me and 3 dogs, so any helping hands will be welcome.

Unfortunately we just can't go. It's the weekend of my daughter's birthday and too soon after our trip to Ohio...$$$$.

Maybe next year though...

I would love to come. How far from NJ is the fairgrounds. I wish I had someone to carpool with. Molly is not very good in crowds...she's afraid or over stimulated by everything but I would love to meet up with fellow DBBers. Plus I really need a day for me....no kids or hubby. I never have time to do things I enjoy, I'm always running for them.

How far from NJ is the fairgrounds.

Depending on where you are I would say it is about a 4-5 hour drive.

I'm at the southern end of the state. So I guess it 's about 4 hour drive? If anyone from NJ or PA is planning to attend maybe we could meet up.

The address of the fairgrounds is

10624 Dumfries Road
Manassas, VA

if you want to map it out.

I just used mapquest. It's about 3 hours and 50 minutes. 217 miles. I'm gonna see if I can try to come. It looks like so much fun.

It really is a blast. I had such a great time last year and I can't wait to take Chance for his first time. Hopefully I will see you all there! I will definately be meeting at Connies beforehand (one reason is that she's the best and the other is that I have NO sense of direction...at all). Hopefully I will get to meet some of you!

Anyone from TN or VA near the Tn line coming? I ask because HD may not be able to get off work even though he told them well in advance. That means it would be me by myself traveling with four puppers for almost 6 hours. :faint: I will be heart broken if I do not get to come..I may have to cut it back to two puppers just so I can still make it but I really hate to do that! : (

Kari or Karen u going?

Kari

I wish I could, but right now I'm in Ohio and grad school keeps me super busy pretty much right up until Christmas. :( Plus my fiance's sister is getting married on Oct. 22 so we have to plan to go to that in Nashville. I'm definitely going to try to make it to the Ohio picnic next year though, dogs or no dogs! ;)

For those of you out-of-towners, have you considered AmTrak? I know they have a station that goes right into Manassas. If you decide to come this way, post your arrival time or PM me, and I'd be happy to help "shuttle" to and from the Fairgrounds!

I know other locals would probably help too!

I mapped out both ways from my home...taking the Cape May / Lewes ferry (3hrs. 15min.) and the Delaware Memmorial Bridge to 95 (3hrs 53min.) I think it will be a more enjoyable trip by way of the ferry but it cost approx. $ 60.00 to ride. I can get a room for $75.00, so maybe I should take the longer route friday night and wake up refreshed in the morning. I just hate all the traffic at that bridge and then again near Washington. Looks like if I come I'll be driving alone. I'm not sure how I feel about driving 3-4 hrs. by myself. It's been along time since I've done a solo road trip (over 10 yrs.) I'm definitely only bringing Molly. I could never handle both girls myself in this situation. Molly is a handfull out in public.

Stac: I have a hotel room already booked, if you, or anyone else wants to share. I will have my 2 dogs for sure, who knows if I will have a foster then (have crates and expen will travel).

I have mapped my route either I90-I79 thru Erie and Pittsburg, or the US-219 straight south from Buffalo - so if I can pick up anyone on the way ......??? (I am coming down on the Friday and back on the Sunday).

Our Cdn Dachshund Rescue picnic is this Saturday. I don't think I will get any takers from up here to make the full 600 mile trip, so most likely I will have space in the van for one human (maybe 2) and one or two doxies.

See y'all there

Thanks for the support and hospitality! I spoke to my neighbor today (she has a dachsie too.) and she said she might make the trip with me. Our only problem ...our puppers don't get along to well. Molly is a bit to pushy for Ace. We discussed working on there relationship before traveling almost 4 hrs. I'll keep you all posted of any progress.

Since I've never had enough computer sense to even post pictures of my puppers, it probably would be a good idea to come up with a meet-up plan. I was thinking of wearing something to identify myself as a DBBer. Anyone have suggestions....name tags, t-shirts ?

09-11-2006, 08:11 PM
Here's an idea:

http://img1.myimg.de/Dbbmember35a.jpg (http://www.myimg.de)

Print this out, glue it to a piece of cardboard and pin it to your jacket. That way, people know that you're a DBB member. ;)

Jenn, Heidi's foster mom is coming from South Carolina. Should I see if she has room for you in the car? You can stay in my hotel room with me.

As for recognizing me at the meeting, I will be wearing my white Canadian Dachshund Rescue Tshirt and NO ONE can miss Heidi Ho Ho's bright pink doggie stroller. (Valentin will have to spend most of his time in the ex-pen, he is not good with crowds - but I am sure you will hear him barking). I will try to print up the DBB name badge too.

:cheer: Not sure if my other post went through. I will be able to make this event I am so excited. Anyone in the Hampton Roads Area that needs a lift just let me know. It is about a three hour drive for me so I will most likely go up on Friday evening and stay in a hotel. I will have my small boys lol and a foster. Does anyone know how other rescues can enter their foster dogs in the rescue parade? I will bring an extra crate and x-pen just in case someone needs it. I have plenty of room in the truck for many Dachshunds and their owners especially since the Saints are staying home. If you need a ride just email me or PM me on the board. Thanks Trina

PS Kym I can't wait to see you and Snickers. I have been telling Henry that he is going to get to see him. It should be very cute. I think Henry remembers our foster babies he seems to anyway.

I miss the big ol' cheese steaks from Pat's in Philadelphia (where I am from) and a great big italian hoagie!

Having a Wawa every 2 miles was kinda nice too...

But I don't miss scrapple. What is in that stuff!

I do miss the NJ beaches and the lighthouses. I'll be going back in December for my brother's wedding. It's been 2 years since I went back there.

Paul It's been sometime since I had a Pat's Cheese Steak myself.I grew up in Cherry Hill and spent lots of weekends in Philly..."South Street"! Now I live at the shore, I still get great subs (they don't call them hoagies at the shore):D . I don't go to Philly as often as I used to....Kids, work, etc. My husband is going to the Eagle's game on sunday....who knows, maybe they will take a road trip to Pat's! I'll tell him to have one in your honor:D .

It's been a few years since I had a Pat's Cheesesteak. YUM!! I wish I was headed to the game Sunday, but I will be watching! E-A-G-L-E-S! EAGLES!!

And I grew up in Medford and Marlton in NJ, and my mother still lives in Mt. Laurel. Just down Rt 38 a few miles from Cherry Hill. Small world I guess!

The event is actually inside. The show goes on rain or shine! I will be taking 2 x-pens to hook together and I will have a DBB sign on it so look for us along one of the sides of the buidling! Bring a lawn chair and you can set up with us!

I have been looking forward to this sooo much and now I can't go. :tears:

On Wednesday evening, I threw my back out (AT PETSMART) and I couldn't even hardly walk. My mom had to come get me and Snix. I was at the #$%&@ Emergency room in Manassas for FIVE excruciating hours before I was even SEEN by a doctor. Then they gave me 3 shots, no relief. They made me wait another hour and then gave me another shot.

Well, I know the healing rayz work for the doxies, lets see if they work for mommy's. Send some my way... this pain is unbearable.

I am so disappointed I will miss the doxie phest. I wanted to go so bad. :crying:
