O.K. I've wanted to do this for a long time....and I've finally decided to take plunge.

I would like to do "something" to help with dachshund rescue. It's easy for me to whip out the check book and make a donation but I would like to do more.

Where does one start? I want to start out slowly.....I'm thinking maybe help with transportation?? I live in Northern California near Sacramento....does anyone know of any contacts in this area?

I want to do this right, so any information would be helpful.

Thanks
Traci

Traci, since you've probably received lots of good info from Heather and Mandy by e-mail by now, I'll just give you a pat on the back and say, Good for you!! There sure is plenty to be done in rescue, and you can do as much or as little as you want. When I started, I did only home checks. Every little bit helps. http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/biggrin.gif

Good luck, and let us know what happens!

I'm standing behind Pamela going:
"Rah, rah, rah, good for you."
Can't wait to hear your rescue stories, and you will have stories.
Wonderful,
Roxane and crew

Hooray Traci!! I just wanted to add that I'm glad you decided to jump into rescue. You will have some of the best experiences in your life...uniting a family and a deserving dog. You won't believe the smiles! But you will also experience some heartbreak when there is one you can't save. In any case there is more to do in rescue than there are rescuers to do the work. Do as much as you can do. Like Pamela said, every little bit helps and the dachshies will benefit. If I can ever help, please email me.

YEAH Tracey!! Another dachsie lover joining the ranks of rescuers!! You will find rescuing to be both one of the most rewarding and heartbreaking things you have done. There's a great story about a starfish that applies to rescuing animals. You can't save them all, but you can save some (be it three or three thousand) and your efforts make a huge impact in both the doggies you save and the people you help find the doggies in need.

Most of us that do rescue work feel that we do it because something in our souls call us to do it and that we almost don't have a choice in the matter any more. You will probably find the same experience. Rescue becomes not something that you do on the side, but something you integrate into your whole life.

Congratulations again on your decision to get involved.
