View Full Version : Introducing....
our new addition - Clinton!! We adopted him through Amy and K9 Lifeline Rescue. Many, many thanks to Amy for everything she did for Clinton, us, and the world of rescue - she is amazing!

Clinton is 12 yrs old, an owner surrender who could no longer be cared for. He was turned in to Wisconsin Humane Society 3 days before his 12th birthday. He is special needs and couldn't be placed on the adoption floor; so Amy took off for Milwaukee and got him! He has a grade 4 heart murmur. I don't know what that means yet, but will be making an appt with a holistic vet today. I talked with his office on Thursday and can call this morning to get his evaluation appt set up for Monday (hopefully). He had a few "bumps" removed when he came into rescue and Amy got to take his stitches out Thursday. She did a terrific job.
He seems to be settling in just fine. We don't know all his signals yet, but we're taking everything slowly (he is 12 after all) right now. I'm sure I'll be updating as I learn more.

You are so awesome for adopting a senior! :bighug: I know most people shy away from them in favor of the young ones because they are scared the ones up in years won't be around for much longer. They don't know what they're missing out on though. :hearts:
Clinton is a sweet little guy. Congrats to you and your family on the new addition. :)

Congratulations:cheer: :banana02: He's so sweet looking and I'm so glad that he found his way to his new forever home. We adopted our Holly when she was almost 7 and she'll be 11 this Nov. She still has lots of energy and was chasing a cat down the alley this morning - first time ever!!! I love the seniors - they are the greatest furkids ever!!!

Thank you for taking in Clinton, and thank you to Amy for, well, yet another great job!
Heart murmurs are usually not very serious. They come in 6 different grades. Grades 1-2 are very mild, and a grade of 1-2 usually means that a few people listen for the murmur, but not everyone can agree that it actually exists.
A grade 3 is usually a consensus agreement that there is a murmur. Our Riley has a grade 3 murmur.
Grade 4-5 are usually a little more serious. Our vet said to us that at 4-5 medication may be necessary.
Grade 6 is the most serious, of course. This generally is not good for the dog. I have heard that at a grade 6, the dog can live well with an implanted pacemaker/defibrillator. This particularly interested me, because my wife has one for her heart condition.
The most important thing is that at a grade 4, he is still OK. You may want to ask the vet about medication, but his age may change the decision as well. Good luck with Clinton!

We miss Clinton!
We couldn't be happier with the home he went to! We know he's gettin' spoiled to death, belly rubbin, cuddlin' under blankies, the whole bit!
Debbie and Russ had a sparklin' vet reference, the best I have ever, ever had in all the vet checks I have ever done...seriously!! :D They really know their dachsie stuff and I know Clinton will have a happy life with them!
:cheer: We're very happy for Clinton! And, of course, for you and Russ, too! ;)
