Hey all,
I was wondering if any of you other Dachsie owners have noticed this in their dog:
We have a 8 month old mini-male dachshund (Morgen) who just loves to lay on his back and "let it all out" if you get my drift! And he'll just laaay there for hours on end (usually sleeping) while he shows that he is pretty proud of himself :-) !!
Anyone else have this problem. . .err. . annoyance???

First off let me start with a question and a comment. Is Morgan neutered? If not I would suggest you have that taken care of as soon as possible. Unless Morgan is a top quality dig that needs to stay intact for the show ring the reasons he should be altered far outweigh any arguments for keeping him intact.
Now as far as his problem one possibility is that his sheath is too tight and he has difficulty retracting after achieving an erection. A vet can diagnose if this is the problem. If you have him altered the number of erections should decrease. As far as being on his back when this happens there are two factors here first many dachshunds like to lay on their backs and second depending on the extent of his erection this may be the most comfortable position for him to be in if he is having difficulty with his sheath being too tight.
Best wishes,
Tom

Hi mikey,
It sounds like Tom has given sound advice in the most likely area, I just wanted to say "hi" and welcome you to the board. http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/wavey.gif

Oh, how funny! I think this is just the standard "I am totally relaxed" state of the dachshund!! My S.O. couldn't get over it when Otis would stretch out like that either. Somewhere on here I found a post with a dachshund sleeping like that with a big "fig" leaf over his most private parts! It was so funny I printed it out but I don't remember where I got it. It also might mean I want my belly rub!! I guess we just have to get used to it or keep an ample supply of fig leaves around!!<IMG SRC="http://dachsie.org/ubb/cwmsmilies/cwm35.gif" border=0> Otis's mommy, Anita

It is wonderful to see the doxies so secure and relaxed they will sleep on their backs. It makes me laugh when I find one of them sleeping like that. Of my six, Mooney and Cloud do it most often. Mooney is a big standard smooth B&T boy(42" from the tip of his big ram style nose to the tip of his tail)and Cloud is not much smaller red smooth girl. It never embarasses me. I'm happy they are happy http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/dog.gifhttp://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/dog.gifhttp://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/dog.gifhttp://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/dog.gifhttp://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/dog.gifhttp://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/dog.gif

If this dog is just plain laying on his back to sleep then he is JUST A DACHSHUND.Most of my 6 lay like that at one time or another but my 2 males a 10 year old and 2 year old love to lay like that 1 of my girls likes to roll and rub on her BALL and claim it.Doxies have a whole list of things that they do that other breed owners think is strange but it isn't if you have a Dachshund.Selective Hearing is the Hound but even more so in the Dachshund.Tudox
