What are your thoughts on feeding a raw egg once a week? Does it really promote coat shine? What does everyone use, beyond a high quality food, to keep your furkids' coats in the best possible condition?

raw eggs are GREAT! Besides feeding raw...I also give Salmon oil daily.

I feed my little men a raw diet. Once in a while I give them a raw egg with their dinner.

Their coats are shiny - their teeth are good - no allergies or itchies. Either I'm very lucky - or a raw diet really is the answer.

I mix a raw egg (we have REAL chickens!) in with the kibble for my two about once a week, also. I further give them sardines packed in oil for their coats (my vet's idea) - and their coats are very shiny and healthy!

Also agree! Dragon seemed a little bit itchy when I first got him (he was on a kibble), but once I got him 100% switched over to his raw diet, I noticed he only chewed on his back feet occasionally and I think its more habit than anything, and its becoming more rare to see him do it. I do add oil to his breakfast, maybe I'll start adding a weekly egg as a treat too, see if he likes it. Wish I knew someone I could get fresh ones from though!

When we ended up seeing a new vet in the clinic we takes the pups to, she asked what we fed because their coats were gorgeous. I told her that we fed raw, and she said "I get the same answer every time I ask!". I knew right away that I liked her better than the other vet we saw because she never "poo-pooed" raw feeding.

We feed a brand called Horizon. It has oils already in it, so all we add is the glucosamine/MSM powder for their joints.

I use 1000 mg salmon oil daily for the coats, and it has helped tremendously with Petey's itching and flaky skin. Both my boys have beautiful coats now. I feed Nutro Ultra kibble also, which is a high quality food. I have given raw eggs on occasion, and the boys love them, but beware the GAS they cause

Mine get a raw egg about once a week. Sometimes I'll cook them scrambled eggs too which they love.

Supposively you can give your pup an entire raw egg, shell included. I actually did this once and I kid you not, Joey had the absolute worse case of the runs, he had absolutely no control and the smell was horrid. Poor lil' guy looked so sad when he had his accidents. My suggestion, skip the shell.

Just 2 days ago I gave my dogs left over egg . I scrambled it and they loved . So I'll have to give them egg more often . Why would you give eggshell to a dog ? I give the shell and egg to my birds they love the shell .But not to my dogs .

Calcium! You need to have them very finely ground tho for them to get any benefit from them.

There's supposed to be beneficial, calcium. I know some give their pups an egg whole shell intact.

You mean sardines in a can and just pour it into their dish? I wonder if Mocha would go for that.

Is this salmon oil I would purchase at a health food store?

You could but why, since you can purchase it for a lot cheaper anywhere else. Just go to the vitamin section. :)
