35 or more soda crackers/saltine crackers-low salt or salted-I have used both
1- stick butter
1 stick margarine
1/4 cup of brown sugar
Spread soda crackers on foil lined cookie sheet. Boil margarine, butter, and brown sugar for about 3 minutes. Pour over crackers and bake at 400 degrees for about 5 minutes. Take out of oven and spread a 16 oz choco chips over the top. Sprinkl 1/2 cup of chopped nuts on top.
I TAKE A KNIFE AND CUT MINE IN SMALL PIECES.
Of all the cookies I make these are the ones people can't get over that they are made with a soda cracker. LOL
If your chips don't melt right away you can put them back in the oven, for a few minutes and then spread with a spoon, then put nuts.
DEC. 1st. 2007
I'm going to try these with white choco chips this year.

mefingas--hey at least your dad bakes-that is so cute, my hubby only knows how to open a can.:D
The recipe is from a small cookbook that a retirement community prints every couple of years and a friend that lives there bought it for me. I collect cookbooks and love them. My mom bought me the Taste of Home cookbook this year fro X-mas.

The one with the graham you can also let marshmellows melt slightly on top - do you put the marshemellow on after the chips?
I love tast of home. I am stuck on paula Deen right now. You know the lady that has to use at least a whole stick of butter with everything she makes! ha ha

I love Paula Dean, reminds me, of me. LOL
Toni I would wait until the chips are slighly melted turn oven off, put on marshmellows and watch them. You can either but marshmellow first and then chips or vice versa-I have done them both ways.
I have a great jellow dessert I will post later.
You can also make a real good fruit cake-I hate fruit cake but love this one.
I buy a datenut bread mix, it has a festive fruitcake recipe on it-I add wiskey and it is delicious-not like the oldfashioned fruit cake. I will post it.

My BIL loves fruit cake and every year I try to make a good one for him. A extra special one ( he is really a nice guy). Well, I dont like it so never try it.:sick012:
He is always saying how good it is but who knows if he is just being nice. :dunno: It's not like I would ever taste it.
So I would love to make your fruit cake. (I only go for the easy ones tho. Some I have seen you have to start weeks ahead of time to let them soak in rum or something. I usually give up and go buy one. Last year I bought one from Branson Mo the ozark Collage. They are suppose to be very very good.

I will post it, its easy--I don't do complicated recipies--if I didn't work full time I would but who has time. This one is more cake than all that fruit, I think that is why I like it--also not so sweet. My family even likes it.:D

This recipe sounds super yummy but do they make fat free margarine and butter? :)
My bf's mom makes easy pb cups with reduced fat ritz crackers and also uses small pretzels and melts a rolos candy on it and tops it with a pecan...YUM!

Smilee I use pretzels and buy different Hershey kisses and melt them on the pretzel, then but either a pecan, walnut or almond. I like the stripped hershey kiss it looks real pretty.

Irma... I like the hershey kiss and almond idea. Almonds are cheaper than pecans hehe.
I may try the heath bar thing. I am just starting to cook and bake.
I made YUMMY homemade applesauce last week for Thanksgiving. Also, just got a Rachel Ray cookbook which is nutty for me since I only used to cook things with 5 ingredients or less and she uses a zillion! I will keep reading your yummy recipes and add them to my collection.

Smilee you can use walnuts, sprinkles, almost anything you want on the pretzels. The heath bars--- you will get a lot of compliments on, wherever I take them people love them. You can buy the off brand saltines.
I don't like complicated recipes-not worth it-LOL

Oh my, I used my biggest cookie sheet to make these. I wish I had three or four big sheets.Hahaha! I made them in the evening and when I went to work in the morning the tupperware container was full. When I came home from work it was half empty.Hahaha!!! My hubby had been snacking on them and he's not a sweetie eater. Needless to say I sent this recipe out to everyone I know. The first batch only lasted 2 days!!

Yup, spread with spoon too. Just made a batch with pecans next batch with walnuts. The batch after that will be made with peanut butter chips and chocolate chips with chopped peanuts ,going to try every kind of mix that sounds good!Hahahaa

Everyone loved them when I made them for work, too - next batch I will melt the choc chips more, spead them with a spoon, and then let them freeze for a while before I break them apart (someone at work suggested that) and see how THAT works! My S.O. LOVES them!!! Of course, they're sweet, so I love them, too - LOL!

Suzanne freezing works good--I let them sit out overnight uncovered so the crackers dry out a little. I also cut mine in little squares-looks prettier.

Good plan! I think I'll use a pizza cutter on mine - they look SO much better this time around (and much more like Heath bars, too!) I didn't know to spread the chocolate around on the first batch, but the last couple of batches turned out GREAT! Thanks, Irma!! Hope you're having a GREAT Christmas Day! We'll be eating and watching the Cowboys win (I hope!) :).

Suzanne like Ruthi try other choco chips--I did and loved the choco the best. When the chips get down where they look real soft just take a spoon and gently spread them across--After I put the chips on the crackers I put them back in the oven for a few minutes then take them out and spread.

Irma,
My mom and I made these to include in the bags of cookies we took to the soldiers at Walter Reed. OMG They were sooooooooooo good!!!! I am so happy we decided to make them and put them in their goody bags. I am sure they all loved them!! (My mom and I could have eaten the entire pan, but we restrained ourselves!)
My friends mom made these too and said they were a hit. My grandmother even CALLED me to tell me that when she made them, they only lasted about 30 minutes at her house. She was in the process of making more...!! LOL Thanks for such an awesome recipe!!:D

I've made them 3 times; they disappear as fast as I can make them. And I'm going to make another batch (or more!) this weekend!!! I can't keep them in the house, they get eaten so fast. I've never had a recipe that was such a hit!!! I haven't tried them with graham crackers, yet. They are TOTALLY addicting!!!
THANKS AGAIN, IRMA!!!

I know i can't keep up with them either. Of all the stuff I made for X-mas Eve those were the hit. Remember to smooth out the chocolate when the chips are almost melted. Then put chopped nuts on and cut them with a good knife-looks better.
My pumpkin trifle also turned out great--my girlfriend took one to Phoenix Az with her, and her family loved it--they then visited other family members and one of the boys said to bring the trifle.

I like them cause they are not overly sweet-the saltine takes care of that.
