I have 5 wires in the rescue today.... they are a mess. All have had their baths and brushing. My question is what kind of hair cuts do should they have. I see so many beautiful wire doxies on the BB looking very well groomed.

I have two wheaten soft wires...three girls. One a wheaten soft wire, two dapples one is soft wire and the other has coarse hair.... all need their leg’s cleaned up and don't know what to do with their sweet little faces.

I have talked to the two groomer’s here in town and they are not sure either…so thought I would put the question out for advise.

Any and all suggestions greatly appreciated

For my own that get clippered (after being retired from showing and getting grouchy about getting groomed :)....), I like the 7f blade on their body all over and their tail. I use 4F on their legs or you can scissor them down to resemble tubes. I use a 9 on their ears and a 7F or 9 on their heads depending on the texture...soft coats usually require the shorter blade. The 7F can also be used backwards on their head.

Hope this helps.

PS Heads - if I understand you correctly you aren't sure HOW to do their heads? Eyebrows are hard to describe so you probably are going to have to play those by ear but you definitely separate them between the eyes and I always cut the hair at the corner of their eyes underneath. For a line for the side of their whiskers, imagine a line from the outer corner of their eye to outside the corner of their mouth and there is a hard whisker on their chin...that is your other clip-to point. When you trim their eyebrows, trim tight to the outside corner of the eye and make a small triangle - I always start with the scissor points at their outside corner of their eye and the part near my hand at the nostril on the same side of the head as the eye you are working on. Just keep combing them down and cutting the line until you get what you want.

bless you for rescuing them. My girl has a coarse coat and is fairly easy to do a little hand stripping to keep in shape.

But it seems unfair to your time and their sanity in a new and unknown setting to try and hand strip. Hopefully others will have clipping suggestions for the softer type coats.

Hopefully they're on their way to forever homes soon

my mom gave up stripping hers for she doesn't show her so she uses my hair cutting clippers on a 5 setting and uses the scissors on their head legs and tail This is diezel
