Hey everyone..just thought I would share a smile with all of you crazy rescue people. Dasher, our little 11 yr. old rescue who used to hide behind the end table and such us making great strides. He now follows us around the house and will sit by us (although doesn't crawl on our laps).

But the greatest thing has happend! Dash is playing! It isn't the most exciting game, but I am so excited that he feels comfortable enough to play with me. He will come into whatever room I am in and stare at me. A few times he has half-crouched but often he just stands there. He will stare at me until I act like I am going to chase him and tickle him. He then runs out of the room. if I don't follow him...he is back in a few minutes and we go through the same thing. He thinks its a lot of fun, although he won't play if someone else (i.e. Bart or one of our guys) comes in the room. Bart hid in the bathroom so that he could watch Dash play his game.

We've had big smiles on our faces all day! http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/biggrin.gif

Thanks for sending me off to bed (too late of course with a smile). I still want Dasher and Mallory and and and... - seems like a harmless enough wish, doesn't it?<IMG SRC="http://dachsie.org/ubb/cwmsmilies/cwm26.gif" border=0>

This morning Dash stole some underwear <IMG SRC="http://dachsie.org/ubb/cwmsmilies/cwm26.gif" border=0> I guess he really is becoming a dachshund now!

We played the game again this morning too!

He doesn't understand about toys. Last week I found these lamb's wool dachshunds in three colors (green, blue, and purple...the colors of our leashes) and just had to get them! Henry and Jakey thought they were great, but poor Dash just looked at his brand new toy. I don't think he had ever seen one before. So, his toy added to the overflowing pile in their toy box.

I haven't given up on him yet, though! He just keeps making me smile! <IMG SRC="http://dachsie.org/ubb/cwmsmilies/cwm12.gif" border=0>

Hi Mandy,

It sounds like you are doing a great job with Dash. It sounds like he is making very fast progress. I still say working with a shy dog helping it develop confidence and watching it's progress has to be one of life's most rewarding experiences. The bond with those little guys also seems especially strong.

Thanks, Mandy. With all the sad stories of awful people and suffering dogs, this does brighten my day.

The vet just called with Dash's pathology report. His tumors were nothing to be concerned about...no cancer, and she got all of the tumor. He is still on antibiotics from the horrible infection he had from one of his teeth (going up into the sinus cavity). But he is such a good boy gobbling up his pills, which I conveniently hide in cheese.

Dash justs makes me smile <IMG SRC="http://dachsie.org/ubb/cwmsmilies/cwm12.gif" border=0> <IMG SRC="http://dachsie.org/ubb/cwmsmilies/cwm30.gif" border=0> <IMG SRC="http://dachsie.org/ubb/cwmsmilies/cwm16.gif" border=0> <IMG SRC="http://dachsie.org/ubb/cwmsmilies/cwm38.gif" border=0> <IMG SRC="http://dachsie.org/ubb/cwmsmilies/cwm42.gif" border=0> <IMG SRC="http://dachsie.org/ubb/cwmsmilies/cwm8.gif" border=0> <IMG SRC="http://dachsie.org/ubb/cwmsmilies/cwm5.gif" border=0> <IMG SRC="http://dachsie.org/ubb/cwmsmilies/cwm27.gif" border=0>

It will be so hard when he goes to his forever home!
