Can anyone in CCDR or anyone else actually help this dachshie? She is paralyzed for 2 weeks now and her owner can't afford surgery or any treatment at all for the dachshie. Jennifer Martin is the granddaughter and is trying to place this dog with someone who can help. If someone doesn't find a spot for the dog soon, the dog will be euthanized. I've posted to DRNA but thought CCDR might be able to help. The more people who know about it the more chance the dog has of being saved. Can anyone please check this out? The family has stressed that the sooner the better as the dog's paralysis has really depressed the grandmother. Her email is below. Thanks!
Tanya
My grandmother lives in Kansas City, KS. I live in Lenexa, KS (about 10
miles from my grandmother). You can reach me at (913) 310-0552 Home or (913)
477-7700 Work. My grandmother is too distraught to handle this so I'm trying
to take care of everything for her. She really wants the dog to go to a good
home and not to be put to sleep. If you can help us, we would greatly
appreciate it. Our only problem is that we cannot afford to pay to have
anything done. The dog is using her bowels and kidneys properly (however
messy since she can't lift her hind end). I look forward to hearing back
from you soon. Thanks for all the help and feel free to call or email me.
Thanks!
Jennifer Martin

Tanya,
I'll try sending this information to Hears United for Animals. I don't know if they will be able to help but this sounds like the kind of special case they may take on. I believe Kansas City is also relatively close to them so that may help increase the odds of something being done.

I know this has been sent to DRNA reps and I think they may have a lead on her...not certain.

Just an update on Molly - the paralyzed dachsie in Kansas. Our one and only DRNA rep in Kansas is taking her and will pick her up on Thursday so Molly is going to be ok. Terri (DRNA rep) has already arranged for treatment options and a k-9 cart. Thanks everyone for your concern. Since losing Punkin a year ago, the paralyzed doggies hold a very special place in my heart. Thanks. Hooray for Molly!!

Glad that Terri is taking this little doxie. Andra in TN also specializes in paralyzed doxies as she has two of her own plus little Freddie who she and her vet are still working with!

Yes Therese, I remember Andra saying that so I emailed Andra too about this girl in my state of panic! LOL It's good to know though that we have experienced people on the board who can help in a pinch! If I ever hear of a dog in FL, I may just send an email your way too!<IMG SRC="http://dachsie.org/ubb/cwmsmilies/cwm42.gif" border=0>

After 2 weeks, this dog is probably not going to recover use of its legs even with surgery. Does Grandma really want to keep the dog but just can't afford surgery? Could we help her with a cart so she could keep her dachsie and allow the dog to have a good life. Some people think carts are cruel but one of ours was in a cart and did just fine.

Hey Tanya,
Glad you were able to get this baby taken care of. Just now getting to email/BB. Let me know if I can ever help again. Always glad to help a doxie in need, esp the paralyzed ones!

Great news about Molly! I hope she will be ok, at least be able to learn how to use the K-9 cart. It just amazes me how some folks here can help in a jiffy!http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/smile.gif

Andra,
I'm just curious, is Freddie the SAME Freddie that Beckie took care of? I followed his story (he's a Mill baby, right?) and was so touched. He was originally with a family and then "went down"? I have wondered about Freddie's progress. Any better? Please let me know if this is the same fellow, and how he's doing? Thanks.

Hi Susan,
Yes, that is the same Freddie! He is still here in rehab with my vet who specializes in rehabbing downed dogs. He is doing great. He has good muscle and movement in his back legs but he'll probably never use his front legs. I'm getting a special cart for him so he can use his back legs and cruise around. He is such a special fella. He shares my pillow with me every night.

Andra,
Man, you learn new stuff here all the time! I've never heard of a cart that is designed for supporting the FRONT legs! So Freddie's problem is reversed - can use back legs but not front? Is there a Website with pics of those special carts?
Well at least if Freddie is healthy otherwise and is happy, that's all that matters.http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/smile.gif Continued well wishes to him. Hey, I've looked at your Website, great job! How are all the Mill babies and YOURS doing? Would it be possible to add Freddie's pic?

Hi Susan,
The cart company is making a special cart especially for Freddie. I've been working with them for a couple of months now. It should be pretty cool when we finally get it. I'll get pics of Freddie and his cart when he gets it.
All the doxies are doing great. They are such precious little souls. Man, they have so much love to give! I sure will miss them!! I just wish they knew how to peepee outside! LOL!! They've all been vetted now. My wonderful vet worked overtime to get them all spay/neutered, dentals, etc. She's a saint!
Thanks for asking about them!!
Andra
