I've been doing alot of reading on what's safe to do and use during pregnancy and what's not. I found out today that normal flea and tick meds are a big No No when you're pregnant. That got me thinking...if it's no ok for me to use while pregnant, why should I use it on my dog any other time. :um: So I began a search for something I can use in place of Frontline Plus. Have any of yall heard of this?

I also found the same thing here but alittle bit cheaper...

First- learn this fast, or you'll go crazy- STOP listening to everything you read about pregancy don'ts. Your doctor should be your main source of information, and let well known sources be your place for research. It's just horrifying how much the world is out to scare us while we're pregnant- like we don't have enough legitimate worries!!!

To me? An infestation of fleas and/or ticks is more dangerous than the application of a very safe tick and flea prevention program- so, we're sticking with our Advantix. It's active ingredient, Permethrin, is safe for use in pregnant and lactating dogs- AND humans (it's the most common treatment for scabies). It's FDA category B- like Tylenol an caffiene. It's other active ingredient, Imidocloprid, has been tested (and passed) for safety in other countries. Currently the FDA doesn't have it listed- as it has no human application. So? I wouldn't EAT it- or suggest you apply it to YOURSELF- but, a once a month application isn't something to be overly concerned about.

Of course, I strongly advise you to talk to your OB about this- that's what they're paid to do! And for the record- "natural" treatments can be VERY dangerous for pregnant women. Peppermint and spearmint oils (found in that product) should be entirely avoided during pregnancy, as they are uterine stimulants! Just proof that slapping "natural" on a product doesn't always mean safe.

It's pretty scary how fast we fall in love with our babies, and how downright dangerous the world can seem for them before they're even here! Just do your best to find an OB you can rely on and trust- and take everything with a mountain of salt (not literally- "they" wouldn't call that safe, either... heheh).

Eek- I didn't realize that you're using Frontline- which definitely has other risks than Advantage/Advantix. It's not considered safe during pregnancy- you're right to be concerned- but, don't freak yourself out if you're not applying it TO you. ;)

Think about switching to Advantage/Advantix during your pregnancy- and of course- call up your OB and get your money's worth out of them by asking away!
