I just can't keep from smiling about Dash and thought I would share with all of you his continued improvements! Dash will now ask to sit with me on the sofa. When he gets up he immediatrely turns around and sits down, as if he thinks he is doing something bad. But, then he inches his way over until he is sitting aginst my leg with his head flopped on my leg. http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/circle.gif

He has decided that he really likes me to hold him through the night and he snuggles under the covers now!

And now...about our little game....Dash and I have continued playing his game. This morning, he didn't care who watched! Bart and the boys catch a glimpse of our game, and Dash was just smiling away (so was I)! http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/biggrin.gif It must have looked like so much fun that Henry joined in ...and still Dash didn't care! http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/biggrin.gif

Dash is coming a long great! And another discovery....at some point in Dash's life, someone cared enough to teach him tricks. Dash knows how to shake hands. You have to do it just right....as he can't hear you say shake and if your hand doens't go just right, he won't see it. I was so happy with Dash's progress today that I could barely control myself! We were playing and he was getting hugs..and jokingly I said shake and held out my hand to congratulate him......and he shook my hand! I tried it several more times and when Dash saw my hand coming he woud shake!

Okay, I know the shake thing isn't the greatest news because it is something he already knew.....but to recall the same dog hiding and not thinking he deserved anything at all......and now he feels open and trusts us....

http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/biggrin.gif Dash the Flash, I love you! http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/biggrin.gif he, he, he.....anyone want a GREAT rescue dog? http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/biggrin.gif

Good going Mandy-

It must be so rewarding to see how Dash is doing. Must make you feel great!!! Any potential people interested in taking him? Will you be posting pictures of him in the brag book? Would love to see him.

Mandy...when are you adopting Dash??? http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/heart.gif It is so obvious you want to keep that baby! Even your posts on the DRNA board drip with the love you feel for this guy! His progress is wonderful. Is he your first foster? Ben was my first foster and we all know where he is! Great job Mandy!

Yes, Dash is our first foster...and we would LOVE to keep him. Two years from now this would never be an issue. That is when Bart will recive his Ph.D. and we will buy a house. But right now we are in an apartment....so if we adopt Dash...we won't be able to foster anyone else for a couple of years...it's the war of the better good, I suppose....

Hi Mandy,

My rescue friend Teresa says while they hate to loose good foster homes if it means another needy little one get a forever home they can get by. I hope thing work out either way. IT looks like you are already reaping the rewards and have a boy who is adjusting very fast.

Best wishes,

Tom and the boys (Frank and Tanner)

Mandy, that is so sweet! I love the part where Dash inches his way over against your leg and flops his head on your lap!http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/biggrin.gif That's just wonderful that he continually blossoms out of his shell and joins the fun. I love the handshake too!http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/biggrin.gif

Last night, while inching his way over, Dash didn't stop at my leg...he kept inching until he was halfway in my lap! http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/biggrin.gif He also let me hold him on his back and give his chest a rub (while I conveniently checked his stitches...which are almost completely healed)....he even liked being carried around like a baby......

Dash is making great strides http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/biggrin.gif

http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/bounce.gif Way to go, Mandy!!! http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/bounce.gif

It's amazing, isn't it, that these dogs are willing to trust a human again after what they've been through. Every tiny step is a major triumph, and it sounds like you're having quite a few lately!!

My Bree thread was lost in the Great Server Snafu, so this seems like a good place to post the latest on my foster girl. She has started to play with toys!! Last night, she actually went to the dog toy basket and pulled out a large stuffed fox, which was bigger than she is, picked it up in her little jaws, and trotted over to a pillow, where she proceeded to attempt to de-squeaker-ize it!!

She still flattens herself to the floor whenever I reach for her, but once I have picked her up, she's as happy as can be.

So, Mandy, since I want Bree to go to a home that has another dachshund (because she just loves my dogs and is so comfortable with them), maybe we should offer Dash and Bree as the DRNA Two-for-One Special of the Month!

I don't know how I am going to survive letting her go. I know you feel the same about Dash! http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/kfrown.gif

Congratulations about Bree! It's amazing how these little guys and their situations can pull every single emotion out of you.....it's exhausting at times....but so worth it! http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/smile.gif Every time I think of how far Dash has come in the past month, I find a big smile plastered on my face http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/biggrin.gif

I think a Dash and Bree two-for-one would be great! http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/bounce.gif

I went home for lunch-time today....and Dash jumped up, sat in my lap (no half-ways this time), and acted just like the king of the world sitting on his throne! You have got to love this little guy! http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/biggrin.gif

Weinergal:

My two year old does the same pancake trick when I reach to pick him up. He has never been abused, or neglected, I have had him as since puppyhood. I don't know why he does this, but he used to pee at the same time, and at least we have gotten this to stop.

Anyway, just wanted to let you know that that behavior might not go away. Maybe you could teach her to sit, and only pick her up when she is in the site position.

So glad to hear Dash and Bree are doing well.

It is just amazing, away from the board for a few day and the leaps (literally) that Dash has made, remarkable.
He must be a real love.
The Pancake Maneuver is Baylea's way of telling us she doesn't want to go out because it is raining.Hope she never teaches it to Greta.
Hooray for Dash and Bree,
