I was just wondering what type of brush (or other tool) is best for smooth Doxies. I'm trying to make sure that GingerSnap will let me brush her now, before she gets her adult coat, and wondering what would be best for the job. I tried a soft bristled brush, which apparantly was too hard, and am currently just going over her coat once a day with a rubber "brush" that I got at Wal-Mart. The other side has retractable long bristles, which I use on Sport, really gets his loose undercoat out! The rubber side is supposedly for massaging and shampooing, and it does a pretty good job of removing all the shedded German Shepherd fur from my Dachshund. (She's like a little velvet lint brush!)
She cooperates nicely with being brushed, in fact, when I brush Sport, GingerSnap runs over to get HER brushing too. I just want to make sure I'm using the right sort of tool!

She's like a little velvet lint brush!) That image is too cute :)
I love using one of these on smooth coats:

And the pups like it too. Guess it feels good on their backs.

I use what they use to call a shampoo brush when guys were wearing crew or buzz cuts. They are very thin and my babies love to be brushed with it. It has a little loop that fits over your finger so it's easy to use. I have several extras if you would like me to send you one pm me your address and I'll send you one.

Try a jelly scrubber.... they would be perfect for a smooth coat. I use them for bathing the horses and also brushing the dogs when their coats are short Just google Jelly scrubber or go to http://www.horse.com/products/sku-BJA30.html

I just bought a couple of different ones at the pet shops and tried them out - they let me know which ones they liked the best. The one I use most has boar bristles on one side and metal bristles on the other, anchored in rubber - they like both sides of that one!
