I have a question, that I hope does not sound to stupid.

Can you show a dog in the ring if it has been spayed/neutered?

Many years ago I had a Samoyed that I showed and they could not be spayed or neutered.

I have noticed that so many reputable breeders sell there puppies on a spay/neuter contract. Does this mean that anyone who purchases a puppy under this type of contract is unable to show them?

My husband is due to retire in a couple of years, and we are thinking of getting a puppy of show quality then, but I am a little confused. I would prefer a spayed female to show if I could.

Hoping someone can let me know the rules on this matter.

Thanks <img border="0" alt="[Jacks]" title="" src="graemlins/jacks.gif" />

Sorry, spayed or neutured dogs cannot be showed. :( Only pet quality dogs are sold on spay/neuter contracts. If the dog was show quality it would not.

Although since you live in Australia I don't know the dog show rules there but there might be a class for spayed/neutered dogs but there are not any in the US.

Hi Pauline, it does vary from country to country, so it would be worth asking someone in Australia.
Over here in the U.K if your dog has proved it self to be fertile, ie if the dog has sired a litter or a bitch has had one live puppy and then they are spayed, you are then entitled to show them. You do how ever have to have written permission from the Kennel Club. Although not the perfect answer, ie you still have to breed at least once from the dog, it is helping to keep the numbers of dogs produced down.
I think that people should be able to show altered dogs and bitches, after all they are only responsible dog owners. My point being, that just because a dog/bitch is entire and being shown, there is no rule that they have to be bred from. Many bitches complete their showing careers and never have a litter. The dogs too are not all stud dogs but many do become champions. So why shouldnt altered dogs be shown. Dawn and dachsies
