Today I went to the Fox River Valley Kennel Club show. For June, it was unbelievably cold, at being about 50 degrees and windy! It was outdoors, too. There were 7 novice juniors entered. I didn't place, on account that Timber was jumping on the judge when he was on the table. Other then that, he did fine.
As some of you may know, I am planning on handling a Canaan Dog in the breed ring, for breeder Bryna Comsky. I was able to meet her today, but couldn't talk long since I had to leave.
Next show is June 9.

You need to work on the table manners.Start putting him on the table at home and have your friends go over him and tell STAND STAY if he moves.

Hey Tiff,

Are you baitting Timber. If not this might help keep his concentration on you rather than the judge when hes on the table. http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/smile.gif

BAITING in Jr's is a NO,NO The Jr is supposed to be in control of the dog at all times SHOWING THE DOG.Work on him and get him to stop and look at your finger pointed outwards with bait at home the do it without bait alternate.Bait no bait till he works with you and you with him.Besides many hudges do not like bait in the show ring so teach him to free stack and he will look great.Get your friends to go over him while he is on the table and teach him a cue word to stand stay but do not use that word anywhere but the ring.My dogs will bait for peppermint in my mouth and kleenex.I do not use liver just steak and not till they do what I want.I do not bait on the table because what judge wants to open the mouth to look at teeth and get a handful of bait.<IMG SRC="http://dachsie.org/ubb/cwmsmilies/cwm26.gif" border=0>

I used bait at both of my shows, but I hardly used it last Saturday. It doesn't keep Timber's concentration, anyways. I am working on the stand command, however. I have a show next Saturday and the Saturday after that so I probably won't be able to teach Timber it within that time. Tim is really stubborn, even with treats.
