I took Maxi to the groomer to get his nails done yesterday. I noticed afterwards, he was limping on his back right paw. He would hold his paw up off the floor and he just laid in his bed all evening. He's much better this morning. One other time after his nails were done, he limped and held his front paw up off the floor. The groomer didn't make him bleed, but he did seem sore. Have any of your furkids done this after getting their nails trimmed? :hmmmm:

They do have nerve endings that go right down inside the nail. I would make sure the groomer has nice sharp clippers, so the nail does not get too compressed when cutting. Maybe a Dremel would work better?

Mocha has done this before. Mocha seems to be sensitive to having her nails trimmed. But I know dogs have nerve endings in their nails, may be she trimmed close to the edge of a nerve.

I noticed Zach having muscle spasms in his back legs after his got his nails clipped from a groomer. That night he was laying on the bed and went nuts and started chewing on his leg and not wanting to walk. We never went back to that groomer. Maybe they'll pulled when the groomer pulled and pulled a muscle? Im not saying that your groomer has done anything wrong, just telling u my experience. He hasnt done it since. The vet gave us some medication for the spasms.

Oh poor Maxi! I bet they hit a nerve in his little nail. I think thats what happened to Dragon once, ever since he refuses to let anyone clip his nails.
I file them now. It takes longer, but it doesnt hurt him, and I dont have to worry about going to far. I give him a treat to keep him busy, and use a high-grit acrylic nail file.

I'm pretty sure it wasn't a thing with his muscle. I have 2 groomers that I use, each in a different town and I've been pleased w/ them so far. They're always very gentle. One groomer uses the dremel and the other uses clippers first and then the dremel to soften the edges. My guess is that it was probably the nerves in his nail. He was fine by the next day, as if nothing happened. I've tried doing his nails myself, but makes me too nervous.
