Hi all!
I am trying to figure out the coat color of my new ML, Bella. I'm not sure that what the breeders told me is correct. :( Her coat is a tannish blonde color, with darker markings on her ears, down her back and her tail. She has the tan markings over her eyes, and the lightness of the blonde varies. I'll post a pic of her that was taken when she was 5 weeks old. (Her 2 month birthday was yesterday.)

I'm preparing to send in her AKC registration, and I want to be sure I put down the right color and markings! Thanks for all your help in advance. You guys are always great!

What color did the breeders TELL you she was? Many reds change colors as they age...the lighter ones darken as they age and the darker ones lighten :) Yours appear to be the lighter variety, going on the picture which is usually a mistake with me, but I still would like to know what you were TOLD the color was and what color do you want her to be ?????? And there is no reason to rush to register her if you are unsure of the color, you have one year after the issue of the puppy papers ;)

Thanks for the relpies!
:o In answer to your questions Cindi.... I feel like a real idiot.
The Breeders told me she was Isabella. I don't think they were trying to mislead me on purpose, they were just uninformed on that particular coat color. (as was I until current research) They are wonderful breeders in all other respects.
As far as what color I want her to be? That is completely irrelevant. She was gorgeous the moment I first saw her and just gets more beautiful every day. She is a very sweet and loving little girl, not to mention playful in the cutest way. I don't want her to be anything than what she already is. The only reason I am concerned about her coat color is for proper registration.
That link was helpful, Meemoo. From the pics of reds they showed, that is what Bella looks like. Although when I look at her, I still see her as partly light tan, with a black overlay. (ears, a stripe right down her back, and her tail.) I wish I had better pictures. I also forgot to mention that her father is a brindle and her mom is a very light tan.
Thanks you two! I didn't know red could be so broad!

Just a hint....if she truly was isabella I don't think she could have that black overlay :)
Enjoy your red girl!!

I believe that Isabella is only a short hair color, kind of like "wild boar" is really only a wire hair color. You're puppy looks red, but I'm no expert. Cindi is right, isabella would have no black at all. Another mistake that many people make is calling any red with any black in it "sable" (not that you've done this)... Sabel actually looks like black and tan from a distance.
She's a real cutie!!:flower:

We had a female many years ago that was a red. But, she was so light a color of red her name was Blondie. Then my schnops was a red that looked like an irish setter. So red can really vary in dark and light. She looks like a red.
Enjoy

She is a red. Red, especially in longhairs, comes in lots of shades and with varying degrees of black overlay. she will probably change color (shade) of red as she grows, usually getting a bit darker, and brighter.
Enjoy her, she's a cutie.

Hello all!
Thank you so very much for your imput, and Bella and I thank you for your wonderful compliments! As time goes by, yes I am sure now that my little angel is a red! I see it really coming out on her muzzle and ears! It is absolutely gorgeous.;) I love the wavy black hair on her ears! I'll be posting more pics soon. This one was of her when she was only 5 weeks. She just turned 2 months. Today is the first vet appointment - wish us luck! Thanks for listening to me about my new love! You all have been a great help and it is appreciated! So - off we go to the bath tub!

Just wanted to say "what a sweeeeet baby!!!" I understand just wanting to know for the paper work, doesn't change how much you love them huh!!! My breeder called my girl a black and tan dapple and another breeder who saw her says she is mistaken and the true name would be a black and silver dapple. I have no idea but I love her tons!!! She is mostly black and silver with tan paws, nose, under ears and on belly. Call her what you want but she is beautiful!!!!!

Your black & tan dapple is correctly named so. At one time they were sometimes called silver dapples. But, if you look on AKC puppy registration papers you will see black & tan then a block under markings for dapple. But, like you said you love em no matter what color they are.
