Corn Chips

Is it just Samson, or do dachsies start getting a distinct "corn chip" smell after a few weeks? Not necessarily unpleasant, but really very much like Frito Lay corn chips. It's uncanny. My little dog smells like a snack chip.

Dachshunds do get this odor, especially when sleeping all warmed up under a blankie.

Yep Frito feet....best when warmed slowly while snuggled up next to you under a blanket :Sun2: Petey has frito feet but Chief doesn't. Dunno why, but I don't mind it. Helps me know Petey is still in bed with me in the middle of the night :D

With Samson it's on his body, not just his legs/feet. My wife hates it, she'd bath him every day if it were up to her. ;)

Yup,
Trenyce smells like a big ol' Frito too. Kalise has her own individual smell, must be 'cuz the girl's hair is thicker or something. Not inclined to rub my nose all over Trenyce much, but I can't help myself sticking my nose against Kalise.:hearts:

Nowdays they both mostly smell like "yard gunk.:irked: " Compost is most inviting in the springtime, and there is always somthing dead to roll in in the big back yard!:frypan: So much for girls!

Neither of mine smell that way - but they're adults, so maybe that's why? And my sense of smell is sadly lacking, so maybe that's why.

GingerSnap is a Frito dog too. It started with her feet, but spread over her whole body.

Today she smells like shampoo though, she got a bath yesterday!

I've actually noticed a slightly salty smell from my Shepherd, too. Not bad and I'm the only one who notices either, but definitely there.

Yes, Frito feet here for Coco, but just the feet, I just rub them with a baby wipe when they get too bad. I don't mind but DH isn't wild about the smell.
It's funny but Chanel doesn't have that, of course she also doesn't sleep in the bed, my granddaughter's afraid she'll squish her.

No frito feet in our house, but we do get some smells due to Heidi's diaper :Sun2: . A little baking soda disolved in the final rinse water at bath time is a great, natural deoderizer and helps to keep their skin from drying out.

Baby wipes or pet wipes are great for the in-between-bath touch ups

Dragon starts smelling like a frito about a week after a bath. I dont mind it at all though, I think its kinda cute he smells like a chip lol. Its VERY strong when he sleeps especially. It always makes me smile.

Sometimes it smells like popcorn too.
There are doggy wipes that you can wipe down their coat. It smells great, and a box of I think 80 from Target was only ~$6. PetsMart sells it for ~$15.
I belive the smell is from them sweating.

OMG and I always thought my hubby is nuts. He always told me that he thinks that Maxwell smells like a Frito. I always told him that he just imagines this.He always said that he thinks that many dachsis smell like that and I didn't believe him:oops: We even maid a bet and the looser ( that is me, in this case) has to clean the car. Hum... interesting. Neither one of my kids smell like that. I wonder why some do and some don't. Sammy sleeps the whole night under the covers also, but he does not smell like fritos. That's way too funny!!

I notice it when jackson sleeps in his crate without any blankets or bedding. Only after a few days though. But it can get very intense!

A long time ago we had a thread on here about the the smell of Frito Feetsies. I loved that thread and there was a quote from Becky Decker that I printed out and mounted on my computer to read every day. Here is what it said:

Schroeder has Frito Feet, but Obie really has it bad - Obie is a whole bag of warm Fritos :D Could be cause Obie has no hair on his body, only his head and paws and a little hair on his tushie. When you rub Obies neck & back, your hand becomes "gooey" and that's the oil in his skin, he has no hair to absorb it. I woves me a warm & gooey Frito smelling Obie :hearts:

Got myself a bunch of Frito Feet here too. Sometimes, but rarely, when snuggled under a warm blanket, Oliver's whole body will have a distinct odor. We don't find it unpleasant at all. I've been known to take a few intentional big wiffs of their feet :Sun2:

Yes! My Zoe doe start to smell like corn chips about a week after her monthly bath! I use to say it smelled like Smartfood popcorn, but it smells like corn chips too!

lol. Mocha has frito feet too!! :D. I always would tell my vet about it whenever we went and he always was like I don't smell anything. Maybe your pup has a unique smell of her own. lol.

My doxies have never had that smell but my shepherd/golden mix always had that smell...sounds gross but makes you crave frito's!! only an animal lover will laugh instead of getting grossed out! it amazes me that just when I think I am nuts for smelling or thinking something someone else does too...helps to not feel so nuts! thanks:cheer:

It honestly is very comforting when they're cuddled up with you in bed under the sheets, you move the sheets and that corn chip smell has been collecting all night and it wafts out so much. haha. It always comforts me.
