Hi Everyone,

I'm needing to know what types of brushes everyone uses for their L/H dachshies.Flannigan's fur is quite fine.I've got 2 wire brushes. One that has very fine "teeth" and the other is a little larger. But they don't seem to take out any loose fur.But then when you look at our clothes, that is a totally different story.

Any suggestions would be great!

:thanks3:

I used a curry comb on my golden - it looks like a miniature rake. It gets down to the undercoat, but it might dig too deep on a doxie, you would have to be very careful. As long as they like grooming you should be ok.

I use a wide metal tooth comb for the initial brushing and then the fine tooth side for Valentin. He is a long hair, but not as full and fluffy as some long hairs I have seen

My Lexie sheds a TON, year-around (from her Corgi side??) - I've considered getting a "stripping" brush for her that's advertised to brush out loose hair, but for now, I'm just using the metal bristle brush to go the opposite direction of her fur growth, then I brush with a regular "boar's hair" type of brush to get the loose stuff out. Some dogs just shed a lot, and there's not much I know to do about it! Maybe fish oil or something like that might help it? Maybe some others can give you some better suggestions. We just live with her shedding - she's worth it. (Valentin is SUCH a pretty furguy!!!)

I have 2 l/h and they have been shedding like crazy as well...I also have a rack like comb that really does get down to the roots and takes all of the excess loose hair off of them. (I found both of my brushes at the dollar general and they really really work for my 2) I also have a comb that is double sided and has a wire brush on one side and on the other, its alot of plastic thin bristles...I also give them a bath once a month and that helps alot as well...Now is the time that they will be shedding alot/getting rid of their winter coats...my male sheds 10x's more then my female so good luck and I try to brush them both everyday, it really seems to help...

Has anyone tried the Shed-Ender? I can't use it on my smooth Dachshies, but I do use it on my Ragdoll cat & it works great! It is one product as good as it was advertised to be! :)

Yes I have. I originally bought it to use on my Corgi-mix, which it does a fabulous job, but I also use it on Lab-mix & Mazzy. Even though they are smooth coats, obviously they still shed & it does take fur off of them as well.:D

I use 3 tools. I start with a flea comb (I like to go over him with that first - always checking for critters); then I use a pin brush with very fine wires; and I finish with a natural bristle brush..........and after all of that, he still sheds some. :faint: I try to brush him 3-4 times a week and he goes to the groomer about once a month. With all of the hair that comes out, you'd think they'd go bald :D.

Some dogs just seem to shed all year round. But, even though I had only standard longhairs for years. Before that I had a sheltie and an angora cat. I brushed all the time. I had so many different brushes that I used on them. I also took them out in the woods camping. So it was a nightly routine to brush. The rakes can really help to take out a lot of the dead hair. But the main thing is to always end up with a comb. To get out the loose stuff and to know for sure you go down to the skin. As long as you keep doing it on a regular basis it is manageable. I always get my grooming stuff right by my recliner.

A fine tooth comb is the best finish to get most of the loose hair out. You can use a stripping knife AS A COMB to get a lot of loose hair out, too.

That furminator looks like a great tool. With my Labs I use a curry comb to remove loose hair, particularly when they blow their coats (dog hair is considered a condiment at my house :P )

I've been used a flea comb and brush on the little dogs because the curry comb seemed a bit 'rough' for their very short hair.

I use the Furminator on my two thick long haired cats and I LOVE it. I think it would work well for a long haired doxie. I also use it occasionally on my aussies but I'm lazy now and take them to the groomers monthly let them deal with the undercoat.

We love, LOVE, LOVE our furminator. I need to brush William, and I will try and remember to post pic's of how MUCH fur it gets off of him. If you told me I would spend $30 on a dog brush and think it was worth every penny I would have laughed, but it really IS, and billy thinks so too. When I get it out he climbs in my lap and rolls from side to side and repositions himself so I can get every spot!

The other thing you need is a Gonzo sponge. It is a yellow sponge that you use to clean dog hair off clothes, furniture etc. I got mine at Linens N' Things or you can order it from their website. www.gonzocorp.com

I also bought the lava rocks and they do a great job of natural deodorizor too.

Sorry I didn't get to this earlier, but I brushed Billy tonight. I did a quick once over with a regular brush first so you could get a comparison. I am not even done brushing him with the furminator yet, but wanted to get these pictures taken because the fan is blowing the hair all over.

I've about given up the fight with all the cat hair. It's airborne, and ALL over clothes. I try to keep the washer and dryer filters clean, but STILL end up with the hair on the outsides AND insides of clothes. I use the tape rollers.

Okay this happens to me too and I want to know how. LOL LOL. How does this happen with cat hair. The furminatior really helps though I have to say. My kitties were rescued, two at 2 weeks old and bottle fed, they are 5 now and one is very long haired, not what I would have PICKED if I had picked a cat the vet said they are mostly main coon the male is huge with tons of hair and then a third showed up in the yard two years ago with a broken foot, gorgeous cream colored kitty already neutered. No one claimed him, he was about 7-8 months old but his fur is so long and thick...ugh ugh ugh...His foot healed and he got along with other kitties, I finally gave up and took the adds down after two months and took the add out of the paper too so he stayed but my clothes have never been the same and I think to myself, geeze they are IN the closet...how does this happen so your post cracked me up.
