Kona is only 11 weeks. Yet he is already humping all of his stuffed animals. He has even tried humping Fluffy, his 13 year old Lhasa friend. I know male dogs hump things, but do they start this young? Does this mean he will become an aggressive dog?

AHHH!!

My understanding of this, is that this is a dominance action. The female puppy we had for a while would try to hump things as well. Popper tries to hump Dante who is at least 2 times his size, but it is a natural instinct. I don't think that you need to worry about it. He would probably do it even if he were neutered.

Dante will even reciprocte, and try to dominate Popper with the same actions. Dante is neutered.

I'll second that it's normal behavior and happens with both males and females.

Thank you all for confirming Kona's actions. I was concerned because he seemed so young. I'll just go on and keep letting him dominate those stuffed animals!

Thanks!;)

I'm glad to hear female dogs do this too. We first noticed Molly doing that to a big stuffed cow she plays with. At the time she was about 2 months old. It looked rather odd for a female dog to be doing that, especially one that was so young. I'm glad to hear she is normal.

Our Annie is the shyest, most submissive dog ever, but she'll hump her stuffed bear for 20 minutes at a time. It's awfully funny, because she's such a scaredy cat she runs from squirrels, and nearly had a panic attack once over a hamster! It's so obvious that she dominates the bear because he's about her size but he NEVER TALKS BACK!
