For those of you who use K9 Advantix on a Mini.
Do you just do the drop between the shoulder blades?
My vet said to do a little drop between the shoulder blades, one in the middle of the spine, and one at the base of the tail. What do you all do?

Hmmm, well, with one of the flea meds. I used it said to make a thin line down the middle of the back (from shoulder blades to base of tail), but with Advantage, the directions say to just put it between the shoulder blades. I just put Advantage between the shoulder blades. I've never used K9 Advantix, what do the directions say to do?

Revolution between the shoulder blades. I believe it has more to do with where the veins/arteries are for absorption than "full body" coverage. For what it is worth, both my long haired and smooths get the same application placement.

My vet recommends Frontline, and says just put it between shoulderblades.

The reason it's usually put between the shoulder blades is that they can't lick that spot, not absorption. I use Frontline and put some between the shoulder blades and some on their butts. They hate the smell of that stuff, so they would never lick it.

The old instructions were just on the shoulderblades. Vets just received new instructions about a month ago according to my vet that said 3-4 places as you were directed, depending on the size of the dog.

2nd that to Irminsul... They can't lick at it.
Warning though! Let me know how it goes as far as getting it all on their skin. I've administered Jackson's twice now, and I can't get all of it on his skin. It kind of "suds" up in his coat. I've even tried going r - e - a - l - l - y slowly. Didn't help.
also, you can NOT give your pupper a bath with a shampoo that contains soap (I still say this is so silly!). Bayer actually doesn't recommend getting them wet more than once within the 30 day period. Nice huh? Anyway, I only know because after giving Jax his bath a week after the application, the next day he had fleas again.
This second time, no bath, no fleas yet. Yay!

I give Rudy and Penny Sentinel, it's a pill that you give them 1x per month and it also keeps worms of all kinds at bay. It is a bit expensive but I just put it in with their kibble and they eat it right up and it really works!:goodluck:

I only use Frontline as does the veterinarian where I work. It MUST be applied to the skin, not hair, as it is spread across the fat cells of the skin. It is NOT absorbed, thank goodness, which is the reason I will use it - one chemical that doesn't have to be processed by their bodies hopefully because it stays outside (one must consider that I'm a raw-feeder <G>). Having miniatures there just is not enough space to use it all if you only use the shoulder blade area so I start at the base of the skull, spread the hair and go down the back as far as necessary drop by drop until I get it all on the skin area as best as possible. I try to stay above the waistline so sometimes I'm getting a double or triple width line across the shoulder area/neck. Within 24 hours the icky is absorbed/spread. Now, don't give a bath for 48 hours before or after application. After that, if you give a bath it will take 48 hours for the medication to reactivate which is why your kids were getting fleas again :( The medication hadn't had time to reactivate. The fat cells are effectively .. uhm... they aren't eliminated but the oil is eliminated in the coat/skin during the bath and it takes time for it to come back...not explaining that real well but that is how it works.
Hope that helps explain how and the reason why it sometimes doesn't *appear* to work.
