View Full Version : Airline regression

Awhile ago Air Canada banned pets from the cabins of planes, relegating them to the cargo holds of the passenger airlines. Their reason was that there may be a passenger on board with an allergy.

Today Air Canada announced that they need the luggage space, so family pets now have to take a separate cargo flight and not even be on the same plane as their family.

Cargo is usually another terminal, heck and gone from the passenger terminals.

Maybe we should just stick some stamps on Fido's forehead.

I will not be using Air Canada with or without my pets.

Who has been passing out the Extra Strength stupid, shortsighted pills????

That is my rant for the morning.

I would never send them in cargo to begin with, and definitely not a separate flight. That is ridiculous. I would never use an airline that would not let you fly them in the cabin with you. I did alot of research before booking my pups into US AIR for our trip to AZ next Feb, I had no intention of letting them go anywhere but right with me.

Air Canada = Morons. As IF, anyone of us, would allow our furkids fly in cargo, let alone a separate plane. NOT.

We wrote Air Canada to express our disapproval to refuse pet in cabin when they announced it last year... underlining that we won't never EVER travel with them again... of course, they never replyed fneh!

Anyway... we won't never travel with Lucie else where than in the cabin with us... oh gosh NO!

whcih I am very allergic to in close quarters, can I have the flowers removed from the plane? or better yet the person carrying them? I just don't understand these airlines. Thank God for airlines that understand people.
If you start a letter campaign, I'll be happy to join in!

I'll join in, too - seems like the airline is trying to please most of the people, most of the time - but left the dog lovers in the lurch!! Time will tell if their new policy makes a big impression - where it hurts ($$$) or not!

I wonder what they would do if someone bought two tickets, one for themselves and one for their properly crated pet????? They have paid for the second seat, and the second "passenger" would not have any of that pesky luggage that Air Canada seems to have trouble finding cargo space for.

Has any one evr purchased a 2nd seat and put a crate with dog in it. I personally with have no problems paying up so he would be next to me. and its a plus $$$$ for the airlines,..full ticket price for a 25 lb dog , look at the money they same on fuel / lbs versus a human who weighs 225 lbs,... and not taking in their luggage as well,... just wonder if any one has ever tried it...???

I don't fly....never will again...but what about people who are wearing perfume, especially BAD perfume or cologne....or NOT WEARING DEODORANT. Can you have them removed to put in Cargo. How about noisy or rude ones? LOL....driving is sooooooo much better.....and when you want to stretch your legs, you can.

Thank you for your email outlining your concerns regarding our recent
decision to no longer accept pets as checked baggage.

We review all our policies, procedures and services on a regular basis
to ensure that our product offering responds to customer demand while
keeping pace with industry standards and economic realities.

As you are aware, effective July 15, 2007, we will no longer accept
pets as checked baggage. It will travel on passenger planes but handled
through the Cargo Department. Pets can no longer be considered part of
checked baggage. We will honour bookings which have already been made.

Our reasoning behind this decision is to effectively handle the high
volume of baggage loads and meet the needs of the vast majority of our
passengers. With the record load factors we have been experiencing, and
with current security measures in place, we have more checked bags than
ever.

Animals carried as checked baggage restrict us as to the amount of
baggage we are ultimately able to carry on any given flight, thereby
inconveniencing other passengers as we have to offload baggage to accommodate
the oxygen circulation requirements for the pets.

While we recognize we have disappointed you, we do hope the above will
allow you to better understand our decision.

Once again, thank you for contacting us.

Sincerely,

Michelle Sturge

doesn't really explain why they stopped allowing in cabin pets, it just explains their checked baggage limits. I don't think they have really satisfied anyone with this answer.

I will never fly Air Canada that's for sure.

They did explain it... :sorry:
"meet the needs of the vast majority of our passengers"

If I had the knowledge, I would make an anti Air Canada page with tone of signatures of friends, relatives and all the one I can get via LJ and here ah :happy030:

I will see what I can do... manipulating my very busy hubby... we never know, maybe he can help :Sun2:

Yes, but do you really think the "vast majority" are complaining about 2-3 dogs per flight?

Yes, but do you really think the "vast majority" are complaining about 2-3 dogs per flight?

It's not about pets in cabin, it worst...
"is to effectively handle the high volume of baggage loads and meet the needs of the vast majority of our passengers to pleased and let more space for the luggage of the vast majority"

Yeah right.
As I said before, Air Canada isn't doing well and this "faux pas" won't help them as they touch a bigger "vast majority" of pet lovers :D

I've seen some children on airplanes I thought should be traveling in Cargo! :D

On my last flight back from Vancouver to Chicago, an interesting Indian man spent nearly 3 hours kneeling backwards on his seat next to me peering through the crack at his wife and daughter seated behind us. During our meal he spilled his milk on his tray and lapped it off - not unlike my doxie - although a lot less attractively, then fell asleep and used my arm and shoulder as a cushion and drooled on me. Oh yeah, cargo for him would have been appropriate, and I'd have much rather have held my Cody on my lap.

Air Alaska for me from now on- I'll be checking their regs next...:crsfnger:

I think if I had that guy next to me, Terri, I definitely would have demanded a change of seat.

Ha- it wasn't really an option, I had my husband on my other side. I was in the center seat on a full plane with the silly man by the window. My husband offered to change with me, but he's a big guy so we purposely get him the aisle seat so he gets as much head and leg room as he can. I was a little afraid he'd pitch the little man throught he little window if I wasn't in the middle. As a dog lover I'm accustomed to drool..:D
