Can you use Advantix in conjuction with a flea spray or would that be too much? Mocha had a few fleas a week or two back and I bathed her and sprayed the house, treated the yard, and haven't seen a flea since. Well we went for walk today and when we came in a was rubbing her belly and saw a flea!!! :faint::faint::censored::pullhair::yikes::yikes2:. I'm like when will it all end??!!

Did you use Advantix on her at that time? If so, how long after you bathed her before you applied the Advantix? To be effective, you should wait 3-4 days before applying Frontline, Advantage or Advantix. It could be that you picked up a flea. If you just used a flea shampoo, the ones I used to use only last a week or two at most. I have had excellent results with Advantix, but I always make sure to wait after or before a bath.

I treated the house and yard the very next day after I discovered the fleas, (it was like midnight when I saw the fleas). I bathed her and the vet said to wait at least 24 hours after the bath to apply the Advantix, which is all I used at the time. What flea shampoo do you use? Should I bath her more often? I'm thinking she could have picked it during our walk because I've been combing her over every night and haven't picked off any fleas. I don't know what to do, I'm like kinda paranoid about bugs and pests being in my house. help2:

Oh I hear ya on the no bugs in the house!! What I did when I found a flea on Mousse was, get this pill from the vet called CapStar. It kills all fleas on the dog w/in 12 hours. Then I bathed them really really well. Then I put on Advantage flea control meds. AND as an extra precaution, I will spray their belly and feet (and Mousse's long furry tail) with the lemon/rosemary all natural flea spray. The directions on how to make the all natural flea spray was given on this board. I think its under receipes?? It smells good, and no fleas on the dogs  I really only spray the lemon/rosemary on them when we go to the dog park or on walks though.

I also use the lemon/rosemary spray. I use it on myself too. We have a lot of ticks and chiggers that like to bite me. Be careful with the lemon spray. If you use self tanning products, it will remove that. I ended up with striped legs. LOL

Sounds like it was one that was picked up on the walk then. I would not bathe dachshunds too frequently and I find that we do not have fleas in the house as long as I apply the Advantix monthly. Of course, if it doesn't stop raining, I am going to have to train my dogs how to snorkel in the backyard! We had another 3.5 inches yesterday! I have 3 dogs who refuse to go out right now, so forget trips to the field for now.:(

I won't be needing any tanning products....I have that natural tanned glow. :D. I'm gonna try that spray stuff on Mocha.

I always use Sentinel and Frontline Plus and I never have a flea stay on any of the dogs I have ever had. With Frontline Plus you do not have to worry about them getting wet. I also love Revolution it is for everything! I wouldn't let Tucker anywhere by your neighbors dogs if she is that unaware God only knows what those poor dogs could have that they coud pass on to your beautiful Tucker! Amos said to say he misses Tucker. :hug2:

Wow! Guess who else is blonde. Never try to do things at work because you might have to go back to something and it might not be the thread you remembered you were also going to answer. Sorry!

Morena,

If you're using the Advantix, you can NOT bathe them with a shampoo that contains soap (don't know of one that doesn't though).

I called Bayer when after a week and a half from treatment Jackson was covered in fleas again. He was getting kind of ripe so I had given him a bath. The person I talked to in their call center specifically said you cannot bathe the dogs with shampoo that contains soap as it will wash off the topical treatment. Also, she said they don't recommend the dogs getting "wet" less than 14 days after treatment. I took that to mean, that unlike the commercial says, it will really only work best if they stay dry.

What kind of shampoo is soapless, I've heard of waterless as in shampoo that doesn't require rinsing but not soapless. Well can you use a flea spray with Advantix and not over do it?

Frustrating, I know.

Unfortunately, I haven't had a chance to research a "soapless" shampoo. I told the lady I talked to that not being able to use a regular shampoo was nuts. How are we supposed to bathe our dogs?? She had no suggestions for a soapless shampoo either. So, for now, Jackson is getting his bath the day before his Advantix treatment. Only once a month. I do use a "cologne" spray if the corn-chip smell gets too strong.

As far as any other flea products go, they make me nervous. The flea-shampoo I tried made my nose burn, and I couldn't imagine what it felt like on his skin. I didn't use it again. Here in TX we got hit HARD with fleas this year. Jackson's almost 8 and he'd never had a flea until this year. After the initial infestation, he's been on his Sentinel pills and Advantix topical. It took about 6 weeks, but I haven't seen a flea since before his second Advantix treatment. We've also been spraying the yard with a general insecticide to help control fleas and mosquitos which have also been terrible this summer.

Good luck with the critters! It can seem like you'll never get rid of them, but it can be done.

Be very careful with the yard spray, Aaron - it can be toxic to dogs. Of course with all the rain, it probably doesn't stay on the grass very long. Still, read the caution label very carefully with those yard sprays. When the weather's dry, like we had last year, I used D.E. on the yard quite a bit for fleas - about the safest flea-killer for outside that I could find. You might check an organic nursery and see what they suggest, too.

Sorry Suzanne, I should have been more specific. It is an organic general insecticide I got from NorthHaven Nursery here in Dallas. No chemicals, just plant derivitive stuff. I asked specifically about pets, and they said pets would be fine. Didn't mean to make you worry! :D
