Hi Folks

I had to write this here first, of course I forgot my password! Thank you Jean!

Anyway, this woman who is in Canada, wrote me about Queenie Girl!

She is doing a rescue event there for 3 days and she wants to do a panel about puppymill pups, with Queenie as the mascot!

I wanted to let you folks know first. I truly think she was here for a reason, there is no doubt in my mind.

She has become an icon, of sorts. Our poor Queenie, how could we have known?

I do think she brought us together.

When we think of rescue, let us remember her

Hi Andrea,

Queenie touched us all deeply and it is fitting that she be remembered and continue to touch others.

She will undoubtedly save other puppers from the same heart wrenching fate that she experienced and continue to motivate many of us to awareness and actions that we otherwise would not.

I can not think of a better fur baby then Queenie. She touched so many hearts with her heart wrenching story. Now she can continue to touch hearts and make the lives of the others betterhttp://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/wink.gif

Andrea, none of us will ever forget Queenie. You were right all along--her brief time on earth certainly seems to have had an important purpose. This is such a fitting tribute, both to her and to your efforts to save her.

I had to tell you folks first. I was so excited when I saw the email from this woman. Can you imagine, 37,000 people seeing about Queenie!

Let's hope to God that her message gets out. I know she meant alot to all on the board.

If we can prevent any more Queenie's that would make me, and all of you, I am sure, very happy.

I will let you know what sort of response they get when this is presented.

Maybe there is hope yet, let's hope so!

Hi Andrea:
What wonderful news!
I am sure all those people out there will make room in their hearts for her memory, just as we have done here.
Her story and your efforts to save her are so touching I just know it will educate many about the horror of puppy mills.
Let us know all about the event,
Roxane and crew

What a wonderful, fitting tribute to Queenie. I can't think of a better "spokesdog" http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/smile.gif

Take care Andrea!

'Woman from Canada'? Hey! That's me!

I promised Andrea and Queenie when Queenie was going through her rough times that when our Canadian Dachshund Rescue group got rolling I would use the Queen as our puppymill mascot and dedicate our anti-mill work to her memory.

We are trying hard to promote Dachshund rescue in Canada since the major groups are based in the US. Our group will have a booth at our first show March 9-11. The show is "All About Pets" and is dedicated to responsible pet ownership. We will be raising awareness of Dachshund rescue and puppymills.

Any suggestions for our the anti-mill side or our booth is much appreciated. A big picture of Queenie and her story will be there. If you want to contribute a short story about how Queenie touched your life or to send me a picture and story of other mill dogs it would be much appreciated.

Many thanks to our own sillysadie for her generous financial contribution that will make our presence at this show possible.

If you are in Mississauga, Ontario for the weekend of March 9-11 come and visit. I'll be the one in the "Boycott stores that sell puppies" t-shirt!

Hey, Sue, glad to hear from you again. Thought maybe you had fallen into a snowdrift and we would have to wait for the spring thaw! http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/lol.gif

What a great event for your area.

Out of curiosity, do you feel you have anywhere near the size of the problem we have in the states, with puppy mills.

Do the puppy mill dogs that are for sale in Canada come from our side of the border?

You really have a 2 prong approach using the well deserved Queenie story. Not only the puppy mill story but also the importance of HW preventative. Hope you will have lots of pamphlets on the subject available for the public.

I know I usually err on the side of the dramatic (it's in the blood) but wouldn't it be interesting if you could have an old recording/tape of "How Much is That Puppy in The Window?" playing to attract people.

If you see merit in the idea, I have some contacts with people handling older releases, just email me.

Go get 'um,

Now that I read this, I remember Queenie, although I didn't know that she had gone to the Bridge until Sue told me this evening. I promise, we will make sure as many people as possible at this show know her story!!!

I believe our puppymill situation is as bad as that of the United States, just not as publicized. QUEBEC has a horrible reputation for being the #1 Canadian puppymill province. I've known about puppymills for years and have been anti-puppymill since I was 19 and worked in a pet store. I was young and naive. Until I had to make the trips to the airport to pick up these poor babies. Some were dead or dying. Many were sick ...... you know the story. We import a lot of puppies here to Canada, to our shame, but we breed our fair share too.

Sue LOL

I didn't make the connection! Der!

Tammy, I think you and Sue will do a great job!

Did you get the pictures of her I sent?

I think this is great, and will help to get the word out. There are still way too many people that are not familiar with what a puppymill is.

Actually, my friend Tina has chronicled Queenie's story from the first night I slept with she and her sisters on the deflating, inflatable!

I can send that to you if you like. She is a wonderful writer. She actually did the last leg of the transpost to get the girls to me.

Actually if anyone else would like that story, you can email me at andrea_degagne@psdi.com, or woof@ttlc.net, and I will forward it.

Yes, please send anything you can about Queenie!

Quebec doesn't want to bother with the animal laws because they feel that ones that affect humans are more important. They will be deluged with mail after the show. I hope it will make a difference.

Andrea, I just had to tell you that reading Queenie's story was one of the major reasons that my husband and I decided to submit our application to CCDR and get involved with rescue. Up 'til then, I was completely ignorant of this situation. We joined this board around Christmas when we got our dachshund puppy for our 14 year old daughter. I was just looking for info to help us with training and aggression issues. I never counted on what I would find. I actually sobbed as I read your posts about Queenie. I then made my husband come listen to me read them and convinced him that we HAD to do something. So, even though you've probably heard this a zillion times, I just wanted to share our thoughts with you and THANK you for telling Queenie's story, even when it must have been agonizing to experience it, let alone have to put it into words. Most humans will never have the impact in life that this one small dog has.

Michell,

Thank you so very much for your kind words. I don't want to sound corny, but Queenie was here for a reason. I really think she has brought the plight of the PM pups in the forefront, and I am happy to have you as a fellow member of CCDR.

I have had emails from around the world about her. My only reget is that none of you were able to see her.

I don't want to exploit her, but I truly think she came here for a reason. She was something!

I miss her dearly.I am going to bury her urn when we can finally break ground. She had so many people, especially on this board, that I swear, loved her as much as I did. She really has become an icon, I know Sue, thank you, is going to plea her case in Quebec, and I hope she makes a dent, but if it stops one person from buying from a pet store, than we have done darn good.

Jean or Mark, can you help me as how to post Queenie's story here? I think we can use it to help the shutting down of mills.

I also have somne pics of her I would like to share. I know Mark told me where to send them, so I will work on that.

Dachsiehugs
Andrea
