Other: Dog food most of the time for all 5 except my senior foster boy who likes to clean up the yard behind everyone else and his breath will knock you over after he has been picking up dachsie waste. Yuck!!!

Ruffies breath is a mix of raw sewage and stinky socks. Had him to the vet and he said that all is fine. Just recently started to give him doggie breath mints and they are helping..., also have to make a point to brush his point little fangs more often.

Bugsy's breath is much better since I started brushing his teeth daily with dog paste and that rubber finger thingy. Now, it smell like the last toy he's been playing with.

On a side note, for some reason his coat/body has a faint cinnamony smell like homemade baking. Not complaining though!

Mia's breath smells like a clean puppy or like her food, depending on how long it has been since she ate.

Butt breath in our household.

I have found a great solution that you add to their drinking water and it does help a lot (when I remember it).

Both my guys had their teeth cleaned and it did not help the butt breath. One eats Nutro and one eats Wellness, so it is not the food either. I think it is just a "doxie" thing. My golden's breath was never this bad.

Well...I think it depends on if she had that urge to eat a doxie made tootsie roll...or was a good little  and waited until mommy disposed of her tootsie roll

Oliver's breath is generally pretty good..good for a doxie that is. Tammy's breath depends on what she's eaten...UGH or if she's been sleeping. She has nasty morning breath! Phew!

Lucie has a bad reputation for her *ewwww* breath around here :yuck:
I brush her teeth often, she chews a lot natural bones, chew toys... has tones of mint treats (talk to me breath fresheners and Yip Yap) but niah... she still stink but only after she wakes up from night or naps :sotired:

Beware the awakening of the Lucie :eekdevil:

Sophie's breath is :yuck: :headache: no matter how often her teth are cleaned and how many doggie mints she has had. Sometimes the breath mints work for about 10 mins, but that's it.

Kipper is my poo eater so his definitely smells like raw sewage if he has had a snack. Schatz's was fine until he started scavenging the yard for rabbits and squirrels! Now it has a distinct smell but I have no idea how to describe it!

Note: I read on a raw feeding forum that feeding pineapple to the pups will stop poo eating. The enzymes in pineapple are supposed to really taste bad on the way out! I started two days ago and have not seen Kip have a snack yet! I'm crossing my fingers on this one! :crsfnger: All three love their new treat!

I sure hope that works. If not the doxies will just all have a nice treat. That is if I don't eat it all myself first. I love pineapple when it is fresh. If it can get them to stop the poo snacks it will be worth every penny. Then I won't be embarrassed when they give others kisses. (Ewwwww they are poop eater'z.)
I had just decided not to go anywhere or do much today. But now I gottttttttttttaaaaaaaaaaaa get some pineapple now. :thanx:

To be honest, I've never met a Dachshund (or any other small breed for that matter) that didn't have absolutely awful breath as they age. Tia's isn't as horrible as some small dogs, but it's not pleasant either. Seems the bigger the dog, the better the breath and the smaller the dog, the more disgusting the breath. Tia's breath confuses me really though, as it smells horrible but her teeth are as white as can be and she's 7 years old almost.

Annie's Mom
06-29-2006, 02:38 PM
Dachshunds are known for bad teeth. When Annie was 5, we noticed that her breath became seriously toxic, and I brought her into the vet to have her teeth cleaned. Sure enough, they had to remove a tooth in addition to cleaning the tartar off the rest.

Her breath has been very sweet for the past six months, although as time goes on, it's started to degrade. I know I should brush them for her... When it gets noticeably bad, I'll take her in and get the teeth cleaned again.

Cathy's reply made me LAUGH so hard the dachsies all looked at me! It's different for all of them--and I DO brush their teeth once a week. Arnie's is pretty innocuous. Ludie's is also fairly unnoticeable. Dieter's can reach you across the room. Gunther's is a "hold your breath" for a while proposition. I think Gunther is still working out his digestive track.
But I really wonder what my breath smells like to them...
Smell is a really funny thing, isn't it? Gosh, this morning the guy who cuts my hair used some hairspray on it and it took me RIGHT BACK to 1992--and sure enough, same brand hairspray!!! Smell is, perhaps, underrated!!!

OMG -- my two older ones (and all my fault) have halitosis out the wazoo -- it certainly smells like it's coming out of the wazoo!!!

All about teeth and gum health .... I know! working on the young one's habits (he's all of 1 year and 1 month!!! - and well travelled too... all three made it just FINE from Germany.... and now we are on a trek from Dallas to Seattle in a Ford F150 extra cab!) .... he seems to be okay with the brushing.

hope all is well with everyone... we are sporadic on the internet, and I'm sometimes on German time, sometimes on Central, soon to be Pacific ---- we are all wonky!

Well, I have heard from others that Our gang has some very nasty breath, but I do not know for myself.

I have a condition with my olfactory nerves that makes me unable to smell things, or almost unable. I f I try really hard, and the smell is really strong, I can smell things just a little. I guess it's a little weird, but that's me!

It is a blessing in disguise I guess. I can't smell the poop and pee from our gang! But, because of that, I am always the one who has to clean it, because my wife CAN smell it!

Oh well...

britten doesn't have bad breath at all. sometimes after treats or chewies he will smell a bit livery or dogfoody, but otherwise no smell. he gives the best kissies :)

(although i have to admit after getting into and eating a bunch of his fish oil capsules the other day he smells slightly fishy hahhaha)

Petey's breath has no odor at all. Chief, however.....GAG!!! His breath smells like...yeah..raw sewage :icon8: He desperately needs a dental, as soon as I have the $$$ to get it done. I bought some Breath Busters dog biscuits, but my son commented that they only make Chief's breath smell like minty butt :D

Has anyone tried those breath drops you put in the water bowl? And would those be ok for the cat, as he drinks out of the same water bowl as the dogs???

For now, GingerSnap has puppy breath. I'm trying to teach her to let me brush her teeth so she doesn't end up with Death Breath when she grows up.

My Shepherd just has a general "doggy" smell to his breath now, but back in January he had to have a dental and had four teeth pulled after a sudden onset of Death Breath...smelled like he'd been eating rotted corpses or something. The fact that is was sudden prompted me to have senior bloodwork done, too, just in case it wasn't his teeth that caused it. Fortunately it was just the teeth, and now he's letting me brush the rest of them a little, but he's sort of iffy about the whole process. At least he doesn't just want to chew on the toothbrush!

I had to multiple vote, as I have 4. Jewels and Bambi's breath now is not exactly flower smelling, but not damp basement either... thank God. Tinha's is the raw sewage one, maybe because she takes so much medication. Sammy's breath smells like food all of the time :0210:

Cowboy--OMG has the worst it smells all the time it smells like rotten dead something ewwwww

Kenna- always smells like the last thing she had to eat, a lot of the times kids snacks that they drop. carrots apples, and fruit snacks....ohhh and Twizzlers

Kleo---smells like cookies (not sure why but it really smells like cookies) either she has cookies hidden around the house or somthing

Girtty---smells like POO half of the time (because she will pick up one of Speedys speed bumps he dropped and eat it) and other times it smells like old wet basement

Leyna - just bad bad bad. Blecchh!! I know I need to brush her teeth more. I'm a bad mom.

Eli - Ew ew ew!! He's a poop muncher, as I'm seeing that other Weenies are. :faint: I can control it at home, but the girls at our doggie daycare just aren't fast enough sometimes! Poor girls.

I do give them CET Dental chews. It helps considerably with tartar, but not with their breath.

Frankie's breath is fowl. Smells good for a day or two after we brush, but then goes right back to stinkin'! :pull_hair: Frankie is not neutered yet, and has a little bit of pee-pee crust around the tip of his penis and is always licking it. :faint:I always thought his breath stunk because of that! But I love him anyway, I always tease him and tell him, "It's a good thing your cute!":sillylove:

Umm, I picked other. Ringo's breath is normally not so bad, but when his allergies are bad it gets pretty nasty because of all the drainage. I'm not quite sure how to describe it, but it's just rotty :P
