Jazzie's Mom

Jazzie is now 11 months old. I got her at 8 months. She is the fussiest eater I have ever seen. She will go days without eating. I have tried almost every dog food on the market. The only one she will eat when she really gets hungry is the Nutro Max.

However, she loves chicken, turkey and hot dogs (actually she will eat any kind of people food). If I cook for her, she will eat it in seconds.

I am willing to cook her meals. My question.. is this o.k. to do? What kind of food should I be cooking? I figured if I cooked and then put some kind of dog food supplement in it, she would still get the vitamins and minerals she needed. What is the best supplement to use?

Lastly, I am also not sure on the amount.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have no idea about actually cooking for your dog, so that will have to come from someone else.

Have you tried mixing a little of the human food in with the dog food? Our dog before Molly loved people food and believed dog food was beneath him, so we'd mix a bit of people food in with his food. The trick is to cut the "treat" into really fine pieces and mix it well with the dog food. Otherwise, they will just eat the good stuff and leave the dog food behind.

Personally, I'd be afraid to only feed my dog human food, especially hot dogs and things like that which can be fatty. Sometimes, those kinds of food can be really bad on the system. Just think, hot dogs aren't exactly every day food for humans due to the high fat and junk in them, so they can't be that great for your dog either. However, you might can get away with tricking her into a slice of the hot dog in with her regular food.

There is a Yahoo list that deals with nutrition, and cooking for your dog. I suggest you join this group as to make sure the dog gets all vitamins and nutrients.

Oh gosh that sounds so familiar. Both my doxie's, Oscar & Moose, are so picky. I always have to mix a little people food in with their dog food or they won't eat. The dog food can sit there forever and they won't touch it. I don't mind cooking for them but I'm always afraid that they aren't getting the right nutrition. I'll have to check out those recipes and see how they like those. I would also like to add some vitamins in there, does anyone know what's good for them and how much to give them?

Thanks for the advice.

If your dogs are puppies I wouldn't suggest vitamins. However if they are adult I give mine Nupro. The link is www.nuprosupplements.com Another good one is missing link. You can find both of these on line and perhaps at Petco or the like.
