My pup's breeder, who has been in Rescue since God was a young man, sent me this wonderful idea! I just had to share it.

THE RESCUE DONATION STORY:
"This morning I am going to pick up a 6mth old Border Collie that was originally purchased from a local pet store. I have spent some time with this dog and he is a sweetie; just in the wrong home. Saturday, I was in town and decided to go to the pet store that sold him. Haven't stepped foot in a store selling live animals in years.
Anyway, I was greeted by a woman wearing a
Owner/Manager tag and it hit me. I politely
introduced myself and handed her a business card. (She looked a little scared). I told her that rescue was taking this dog in. She started to give me a speech about how it wasn't their fault, they sell pups from reputable breeders, blah, blah, blah! We are standing right by the puppy windows and there are a ton of people in the store.
Finally I told her that NO reputable breeder would sell to pet stores and that I was not there to discuss ethics or morals. She looked at me and said "Well, what do you
want?" I nicely replied - a donation. You made plenty of money on this pup when you sold him and now a group of volunteers will take him and pay his expenses until we can find him a good home. And any responsible
breeder would rescue so maybe she should discuss this with the breeders she was purchasing from.
I have to tell you she looked stunned. She started to tell me she would have to check and see about this and that. I didn't move! She then said that since this was the busiest weekend of the year she would have to get back to me on Monday. I didn't move!
Now you could see her thinking "How do I get this woman out of here". She finally asked how much I wanted. Nicely I
replied that $50.00 would be fine. By now she is getting mad but is smart enough to want me out of there. She wrote us the check!
I thanked her and turned to leave, then turned back and did the - 'Oh by the way, you might want to think twice about selling a BC, or Aussie pup in here again. We will expect a donation from every one you sell. And we do have people checking all the pet
stores!'
She looked stunned! She started to tell me again how she had been in the business for 14 years and knew that the majority of "her" pups were in wonderful homes. I replied - I have had dogs older than that and I know that the majority of "your" pups come from
Puppy Mills! I nicely thanked her for her donation and said I hoped we would not have to be back.
Not only did this bit of revenge make me feel better, but I had two people follow me out of the store asking about rescue!
So this is our new rescue rule. If a dog comes to us that was purchased from a pet store, the store will get a request for a donation! And if any of us see a BC pup
in a pet store they will also get a request. Maybe, just maybe, some of the stores will decide it isn't worth having us in there bugging them.
Just wanted to share my pet store donation plea! :>)
