View Full Version : Foot Hair
Oscar has about an inch of hair growing from his paw pads. Does this hurt him? Should I trim it?

My groomer trims Xena's feet - otherwise it becomes matted and knots. I would trim it off.

I'm assuming that you mean on the underneath side of his foot - growing between his pads. If so, yes, it should be trimmed to give him the ability to grip with his pads. He should be walking on his pads, not on slippery hair. A groomer will use a hair trimmer that can actually get down between the pads. If you're going to try doing something yourself, be careful not to knick a pad.
OK, i tried to clip it myself once but he is so touchy about his feet. Maybe i can add that to the list of things to do to him when he is at the vets office

That's a great idea! Most vets' offices would be happy to clip nails, trim pad hair, etc.

Yup, its a monthly thing to do around here :)
Mousse, my LH, has a lot of fur, including under his feet. Silly boy doesn't enjoy his trimming time, but he does ok :dizzy:

I give Beau a plate, spread some peanut butter lightly around it...then clip his paw hair underneath his paws. I leave the hair on top..unless it gets really long. I think it's cute, and I don't think if it's on top that it bothers him. But, the stuff on the bottom starts to cover his little paw pads, and that's when it's time for a clipping!
