Had this legislation been in place, perhaps the Wyoming verdict would have been different. Or the men involved might have been tried on other charges. This has been crossposted from another source.

<< Proposed U.S. House legislation linking animal violence to human violence needs your support
**On 5/25/2000 U.S. Rep Tom Lantos (CA-D) introduced House Concurrent Resolution 338 expressing the sense of the Congress regarding the "LINK" between violence against animals and violence against humans and urging greater emphasis upon identifying and treating individuals who are guilty of violence against animals, which is a crime in its own right in all 50 States, in order to prevent violence against humans and urging research to increase understanding of the connection between cruelty to animals and violence against humans. It also urges all law enforcement to treat animal abuse seriously.

I had a thought. Not that this would have made any difference. But if the men truly thought the animals were harmful and vicious, couldn't they have been more humane about it. Obviously the animal control or shelter would have been the best option. But a hammer? knowing that dachsies will eat just about anything, they could have fed them poison. Seems to me that would have been more humane. I don't know how the jury found them innocent? It's beyond me. But what do i know?<IMG SRC="http://dachsie.org/ubb/cwmsmilies/cwm6.gif" border=0>

Followup:
The first email address given works the second to McCollum does not. I have written to the original poster for a correction.
It only takes 5 minutes (if you type fast http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/smile.gif) to send a supportive message.
The correlation between animal and human abuse/murder is well establish, we do need this recognition, legislatively.
Thanks,

I received an email from Linda Morgan and she said that it is in the review of the three subcommittees, and the pressure is needed on the chairman now. So, anyone thinking of writing a letter please do so soon.
Thanks Roxane for posting this!
