I won't be getting my new pup for another 2 months, but does anyone have a good idea what will be the best thing to start feeding her? I will of course ask the breeder, but perhaps someone here has experience with good or bad foods? Do they need dry and wet food from the beginning?
Thanks!

:circle: Did you mention food! Most doxies will eat just about anything. Sometimes you will come across a puppy that can't tolerate different brands. I always take the breeders advice to start out with. It is nice if they give you a small amount to hold you till you know where you can get the same kind. But each dog or puppy can react different to foods. So the main thing is to go with a good quallity, but that is easier said than done. There are good web sites: to check out, along with articles and recomedations from different breeders.
I've have had 4 different dogs at one time and was using 3 different brands of food. When I had poodles years ago, one of them actually smelled after she ate a certain popular brand of dog food. We changed that brand fast. If the breeder hadn't told me it was the food I never would have guessed it. If they had their way they would inhale  LOL
For a puppy you need the extra's that the adult dog doesn't
Boy I said a lot for not saying anything useful!!! :D

By the time you get your puppy, which should be about 8 weeks old (no earlier) or so, they have already begun eating dry kibble. Some breeders may moisten it a bit for a while, others do not. If the pup seems to be able to handle dry ok, then go for it!

Make sure to get a good quality kibble with MEAT being the 1st ingredient, not CORN. Protein should be the primary ingredient. Generally, you feed LESS of the better foods, so you really do not save by purchasing cheaper brands. Start researching through YAHOO, etc. I notice you're in Australia, so you have different foods there. Good luck and enjoy your new puppy!:)
