Tommorow I get my new dachie pup Callie. Anyway I have a 16 month old now Conner and it took Conner a good 8 months to get housebroken. Well I would like to get Callie off to a good start in housetraining. I know I am going to have to crate her when I am at work, and I work 8 hrs a day and she will be in the crate for like 10. I know that is just to much time so I am expecting her to have accidents. Conner did have accidents and then got really better at the idea. I am wondering if there is anything else I can do. There is no one to let her out and I cant leave work to let her out. So really I have no choice but to just do what I did with Conner but I would like some other suggestions.

Crating for 10 hours without a break would be a problem for a puppy. If there is a way to take Callie with you and keep her in the crate at work and then take her out every hour or so, that will speed your house breaking (fortunately, I have been able to do that). Also having a second dog may help at home. Ten hours in a crate is just too much without a potty break and will only teach her it is okay to go in the crate. Other folks have used an ex-pen with the crate and papered the area outside the crate in the ex-pen so that the puppy doesn't learn that it is okay to go in the den! Good Luck... I am sure that others have more experience with this than I do and will share their opinions. Rena

I have an 8 month old and a 4 month old. I have been litter training them. They are so little and I would hate for them to have to hold themselves. It has worked well so far. I also come home 2-3 times a weeek at lunch just to visit because they enjoy the company.
