Does anyone have any information on toys that are "dachshund proof". Any kind of stuffed toys don't last more than 10 minutes with Molly and she loves stuffed toys! Just curious what kinds of toys other dachshunds have.

Thanks!

I can think of two things that seem to be relatively "Dachshund Proof". There is the Kong, and then the Galileo bone by Nylabone. Kongs come in various sizes and you can put treats inside to entice them. They're made of a very tough rubberish material. Galileos are said to the world's strongest dog bones. You can get them in the larger pet supply stores, and to me they're a little on the pricey side. Unfortunately, my Bella won't have either. :( (Although I understand they're quite popular with the Dachsie population.) :)
Stuffed toys are definately the favorite in my house. I get the Hartz Mad Dogz and they seem to take a pretty good beating! The Mad Dogz rubber squeakies have lasted a long time here too and are reasonably priced I think. However if Molly is an aggressive chewer :) then I would have to recommend the Kong and Galileo. Hope my two cents helps!

Check out the snakes, squirrels and more post. These "Material" toys do not have stuffing... they have woolly lining and the squeaker comes in a bag -- velcro holds the toy and bag together and there are replacement squeakers. These have held up to the 4 girls and all the fosters so far... I have 2 big trash bags of other toys that need to be repaired. They cost more, but hold up to dachshund attacks and wars, Rena and the 4 pack of girls and 1 senior foster boy.

I must agree, until recently I would have said that the kong and the nylabone were the only toys that would stand up to dachsie treatment. But recently our eldest dachsie Sigi, found what I can only describe as a large squashy baseball on the beach. He often finds toys or balls on the beach, and usually they are ripped to shreds by the time we get home (about 5 minutes). This ball is absolutely indestructible although made of some kind of very pliable plastic. The only other toy that has lasted the course is an "air ball" which has been slightly chewed but remains his favourite because it is so easy to pick up.

Funnily enough his brother Otto doesn`t play with toys at all. They have the same father and mother and have been brought up exactly the same, but he just isn`t interested in toys. Occasionally he will play with a toy but only to prove that he can.:bounce:

In my house, the popular toys are balls, the nubby dinosaur, chicken flavor nylabones and what I call a "rope" toy. Frankie has 2 favorite balls. One she will fetch, bring it back and will play tug of war with me. She has another ball which she will push down the steps with her cute little button nose. Her nubby dinosaur is about as old as she is - 4 1/2 years old. She has already chewed off the neck but this thing is so strong. Her nylabones she will gnaw at after she eats. The "rope" toy we will play tug of war with. The cutest toy she has is a multicolor sqeaking doxie which I bought for her to play with but she's afraid of it. So, it's my toy now! LOL I found tennis balls don't last very long, as she will pull off the fuzz. My fear is that she will swallow too much of it and it will harm her, so I gave up on the tennis balls. I cannot let Frankie play with stuffed animals; she destroys them. Again, my fear is that she will swallow things she shouldn't.

Where do you get these squirrel, etc toys? What are the exact name of them? Chief is a real toy killer..amazing for such a sweet dog....:D

The only toys that will hold up are: Kongs, galileo bones, a "best ball" which is made of hard plastic and it is rather large and the rope toys. Everything else, is history in a matter of seconds....
