I was wondering at what age will a pup sleep all night without crying or needing to go potty. Plus I have a question about crates. I have two crates. One is small and the other is medium to large size. The larger one is to large for her but she is crated during the day without me coming home so my husband puts her in the larger one so she has room to potty if needed. I feel like this isnt teaching her anything. He also puts water and food in the crate and I was wondering if this is ok or if I have to do something else. Any advice would be wonderful

I'm not sure if I'm understanding your questions. Is your pup housebroken? If not, crate training with a crate not much bigger for him/her to move about so they don't use it as a "potty crate." You want to take him/her out at consistent times and praising when he/she does go. If the pup is ALREADY housebroken, a crate that is bigger works ok, I use an x-pen which has lots of room. He has his bed, food, toys in it. Like his own home. (We've actually considered hanging photos on it. :) You don't want the "crate" to be a punishing effect, but rather a den of sorts. Chief loves to go inside because he gets a frozen kong. He does the happy dance when I say..who wants to go in the dachsie den.."

Does this help at all?

Oh I guess I wasnt clear. My pup isnt housebroken yet and we have two crates. One that is small that is big enough for her to lay down, turn around, and sleep. The other is large enough for her to roam around. I always thought that she should stay in the smaller one, because she is comfortable in that and also she will go into it at will. However I work all day and she is crated without a break during the day and so my husband puts her in the larger one with a potty pad, food, and water and she does go potty in there. My question is should I put her in the smaller one to train her better of still put her in the larger one since she is crated for 8 or so hrs a day. Also should I put food and water in there as well.

How old is the pup and how often has the pup been going in the crate? Do you know how long the pup can hold it?

The pup is 8 weeks old. She only has been going in the crate for like 3 days now. She can hold it up to like 3-4 hours
