This may seem like a silly question, but I have always been curious about this so I feel compelled to ask. Do dachshunds typically become agitated when either their paws or backs are touched? I have a 3 year old who has always growled when touched in these places. His growling is very aggresive and fierce but he only "play bites" my hand when he does this. Anyone else experience this with their dachshund?
Hi griffen,
Nope . . . never heard of this and do not experience it with any one in our 6Pack. The two possibilities that come to mind is the touching of those areas is painful or there is an aggression problem brewing. Does your Vet have a lot of experience with Dachshunds and have you asked his/her opinion?
Sorry we couldn't be of more help . . .

I have observed this with feet. One of the girls my folks had when I was growing up was this way. I wouls say first rule out some medical problems then work on this perhaps asking a trainer in your area for some advice. If you don't work to overcome this problem it's possible the play bitting could become hard bites in time. Dexter would show a fang when his shoulders or hips were rubbed when I first got him. I have made a point of working with him massaging those areas and he has learned to relay quite a bit. I hadn't see a toot while massaging those areas for some time till his fight with Frank last week. We are worining on it again and he is starting to relax again the progress appears to be much faster this time.
Good luck,
Tom and the boys (Frank, Tanner and Dexter)
