View Full Version : Finding the right food
We have been feeding Trixie Nutro (Senior) Natural Choice and canned Beef/rice & Chicken Rice (also Nutro) in her first 2 weeks with us. We noticed that she's been passing gas all day and oh boy does it smell.:yikes:
This week i switched to a new Nutro product called MAX (senior) and she seem to like this much better and it's a miracle, she is not passing gas all day anymore. This new product is even much cheaper than the other one. I am sure she is a lot more comfortable too. :D She has gained 4 lbs so far and now weigh 13.4 in our last visit to the vet. She looks much better now that she gained the weight. Poor trixie was all bones when we rescued her.

Glad to hear that Trixie is doing good! (A big thanks from Bella and I for giving her such a good home!)
Could it have been the canned food that was giving her gas? I've seen several circumstances where canned food has just irritated little tummies. Then again maybe she just had a sensitive tummy and had to get back into the swing of things.
Anyway, I am glad to hear that she is eating well and putting on some weight! Bella sends her big licks!

Someone suggested a new dog food, well new to me anyhow. My Con-Man has the male doxie baldness syndrome going on. Basically he is my naked dog. Anyway I tried the Natural Choice, it''s by Dan Van Emperium or something like that. It is in a blue bag and they also have food for dogs with allergies. It is made with duck and rice. But it isn't cheap. Anyway Con has started to grow some fuzz on his chest. Strange but in summer he gets a little more hair. But winter he is totally bald under his belly, ears and lately his tail has bald spots. Yes he has been tested for hormones etc.
Also I had a standard poodle that her hair actually stunk till I changed food. The breeder couldn't figure out why her kennel and all the dogs had such a bad odor. It was the food she had changed to. Something with there body chemistry. Go figure hey!
I am glad you found something that works for Trixie. She has got to be happier too! Also glad you are giving her such good care and a loving home! :jacks:

Mitzi has thin hair on her chest too. We did all the blood test and very thing came back normal too. I've noticed that when she sleeps on a big cedar chip filled pillow is get worse. And also I think some of it also comes from a wool blanket on my bed. During the summer months her hair grows back in fine and just as she starts to look good the cold wind starts to blow and out comes the blanket. But at least I know what's causing the thinning and I've tried to keep her away from both the pillow and the blanket but you know Mitzi if she can't have something she tries all the harder to get it and usually does!
So maybe this is what is going on with your boy too. I don't know but it won't hurt to check out your house and see if he's laying on something that might not like him.
