Spot is going to the bridge

My childhood dog Spot is being put to sleep Thursday. He has bad arthritis and has been taking medicine for the past 9 months and hasn't really gotten any better. My Dad called this evening to say Spot fell in the yard earlier today and couldn't get back up. They finally got him up and now he is in the garage and is just laying in the floor shaking and isn't moving. The vet can come to the house to help him to the bridge. They are going to call tomorrow to have him come out so he can go to the bridge at his home. I just got done crying enough where I could see the keys to talk. I know this is selfish, but I'm not ready for him to go. I know he hurts but I don't want him to leave...

Oh Keri I'm crying with you. I do know what you are going through as I've had to make that decision with my dalmatian Sara. She also has arthitis so bad she falls down walking across the room. AS soon as we can make arrangements she will be PTS. I'm not ready either ...I don't think you can ever be ready, but we have to do what is best for our beloved friends. I'm sorry Keri... my child-hood dog, a Scotty names Mary, left us when I was in College.. she was the first dog we had ever had and the first I had to grieve over.. so I know exactly where you're coming from. :hug2: It doesn't get easier but it is the price we pay for their unconditional love.

I'm so sorry. That is exactly what happened with our first dog Champ. He went down in our kitchen and we weren't home. Our teenage son found him and called us to come home. I felt so guilty that he laid there who knows how long without anyone home. We had to put him to sleep the next day. It was this past August and I would cry at the drop of a hat. I just kept telling him what a good boy he was and how we would never forget him.
It was truly one of the saddest days of my life. I still tear up thinking about him. I just try to remember that he is in a better place and I WILL see him again someday.

Today is the day Spot starts his journey to the bridge. I talked to my Mom last night and the vet is coming to the house at 5. She said she would have the vet wait for me to get there so I can see him. I'm about to start crying right now but I will post later tonight if I feel up to it. :sad2:

Everyone say a prayer for my Mom. She loves Spot and it will be like she is losing 1 of her children.

I still remember Spot's first night at home. He was in the kitchen and wouldn't stop crying so I brought him into my bed room and he peed on the floor. I guess I'll always remember that... :kfrown:
