I was wondering if there is any way to tell how big a minature dachshund puppy will become. I am looking for a companion to my 7lb dachshund and would like to find one close in size. Is there any way to tell?

Thanks

Assuming that you will only get a puppy through a responsible breeder, the breeder will able to tell you the size of the parents.
Since you have a "true mini" in your 7 lb dog, you should look for a breeder who specializes in minis only. The parents of your new pup should both be healthy minitures - with that in mind you should end up with a dog similar in size to your current one.

Cheers and good luck

Even though the parents of your next puppy are truly minis your pup might not be. This is what happend to me with my Mitzi Moo. Her parents were 10 lbs and 9 (if I remember right) and Mitzi now weighs in at 14! All we can figure out is she's a throw back to when they were breeding down the size for minis.

You might think about adopting an adult. One that is full grown or close to full grown would be a "sure bet."

Good Luck!

I have to say that I second the suggestion to adopt an adult. My fiance and I adopted Roxy from a rescue group in May. She has been the sweetest dog ever! To be honest, I don't miss the housbreaking or the chewing on EVERYTHING puppy stage. There are so many wonderful adults out there that need good homes, I would definately recommend that route!
