I've seen more then once that some shelters don't allow rescue groups to take dogs, why is that? I would think they wouldn't care who takes the animal as long as it leaves the shelter?

That's exactly how I feel! You would think that the Shelters would be willing to do team work with Rescue Orgs. It's beyond me!<IMG SRC="http://dachsie.org/ubb/cwmsmilies/cwm25.gif" border=0> Anybody here have an answer?

There are people on this board with more rescue experience than I, but from what I have experienced, it can be because they want the fee, and some rescue groups won't pay that fee. So, therefore, they won't surrender to rescue.

There is a shelter in my area that is not rescue friendly. My dachsie Betty was in this shelter and CCDR was trying to get her out since she was about to be put down. The shelter would not release her to CCDR even though they were willing to pay the 130 dollars for her. They don't work with rescues because they are not able to properly screen all of the rescue groups. However they encourage rescue groups to refer people who are interested in that dog to their shelter. That is how I got Betty. I was approved by CCDR and was waiting for a dog that fit my needs. Since Betty was what I was looking for (although a little older than hubby wanted) they told me about her, I adopted her, and we are all living happily ever after.
