I am pretty sure that I read somewhere that it is best if you wait until the puppy is 16 weeks old because they have such sensitive skin.

I would wait a little, if you want to clean him a little, use baby wipes.

As a groomer we suggest grooming every 4-6 weeks starting within 3months of age. That includes brushing, bathing, nails, ears & some trimming of long hairs if any. My shop uses a Protein tearless shampoo & cream rinse.
BUT, I only use a rubber brush on my smooth Doxie, dremel the nails, wipe out the ears and spray her with Nova Pearls moisture spray or use Pet Silk oils, every week. I hardly ever bathe her unless she rolls in dead stinky worms, she has had only 3 baths last year.

If he needs a bath.. as in he is smelly and dirty... give him a bath in warm water with a gentle doggie shampoo and make sure you get all the shampoo out.. Rub him till he's dry witha towel...should take no time at all. Make sure he's completly dry before he goes out.
Don't give him a bath just because.. if he's not dirty he doesn't need a bath. If he has poopies, pee or something else nasty on him by all means clean the pup up. I'd use the sink and the sprayer.

The breeder I got Mousse from told me that since he had not had a bath by the time I picked him up, I could give him one if he started to get smelly. And since he's a longhair and was SO low to the ground, he'd pee on himself when he went potty . So his belly/chest/feet would always get wet. After a few times of using puppy wipes, I just had to bathe him. I'd say he got his first bath at 10 weeks?? He wasn't happy at all! haha

:hearts:  Your whole comment and picture had me cracking up. But I especially love the "if he started to get smelly" part.

When the breeder told me that, it reminded me of the part in "Big Daddy" with Adam Sandler when the teacher told him that the boy was the smelly kid in class.
Poor Mousse, he would pee on himself so much and then tip toe out and look at me all sad. His legs were just so short that when he'd squat, he was almost laying down! LOL

Lol, that is my only problem, Moose pees on himself ALL the time! :( haha, it is cute though, in a strange way?
My only issue is with his belly, it has no fur on it yet, well at least not around his, ahem, area.
He has fur on the tip of his, area, that is constantly getting icky gross things stuck in it!
He is starting to smell little by little, but he is so young I worry about him catching a cold!
He is only 2 months.

I cut off the fur that hangs off his wee wee. What I do to make double sure I don't snip too close, is I put his wee wee between my forefinger and thumb (on my left hand, since I'm right handed) and slide my fingers up to the tip, and then snip. Nothing important gets in the way! :D
Also, I believe Target sells puppy wipes (cheaper than PetsMart and Petco) that smell great, and worked like a charm. But if he's really smelling bad, then I'd give him a warm bath and dry him off really well. I'd do it during the day time and not at night when he's more likely to want to sleep and get even colder with damp fur. My two run like the wind for the first 15-20mins. after their bathe. Its zoomies x10!! haha

LOL, I'm sure that is exactly what he was thinking. I have so many pictures with his sad face during bath time. He truly hates it. Cocoa on the other hand jumps in the shower with me if I let her...then hogs all the water!

Too funny!!
Ok.. that was a good laugh! I bathed Dragon pretty early for pretty much the same thing, he likes to pee on the cement and it splashes up on him. Baby wipes work for a while, but it just comes time to have a good bath eventually!
I didnt want him to be scared of the tub, or hate baths, so yeah, I know this sounds wierd (ok, well I guess this is probably the one place in the world where people would understand this and not give me a horrified look!) but I got in the tub with him the first few times I gave him one. It worked, Dragon loves bath time now, and its not a big fight when I have to clean him up. He'll even jump into MY bath sometimes if I dont watch him enough. Nothing like relaxing in the tub with a book, and then suddenly having a 15 pound wet dachsie on your stomach!

haha-- its okay... I still get into the tub with Duncan, just kneeling and then he tends not to panic.
As far as "peen fuzzies" as i call them, i just used to dab duncan's peen with a piece of toilet paper after he peed, but he should be fine as long as you use warm water, fill it up so that the water comes up to his armpits so his tummy stays in and warm... then wet him down, soap him up and rinse.... then take him out, wrap him up in a towel and just snuggle him for a few minutes until he's dry. he'll be fine. I gave Duncan his first bath at 8 weeks, he was stinky from being in a petstore :faint: He'll be fine... just keep in mind that u should use bathwater that you test on your wrist (like for babies)...and dry him off ASAP! :)

I shower with my two when its bath time. :D
Cocoa hogs the water and Mousse sits in front of me and stares me down. LOL Its like he's pleading with me to take him out.
He even knows when its bath time. When I get out the "special" towels, he does that playful stance, front body down with the butt/tail up in the air, and starts playfully growling and running. It cracks me up. All the while Cocoa is jumping up and down so I can put her in the tub. Silly girl!

I even bathe our shar-peis that way . They live with my mom and dad, but I help out and bathe them when I go over there. Big difference in picking up little hotdogs versus herding a 50-60lbs dog into a tub. I just feel bad that if I didn't bathe them in the shower, they'd be getting bathed in cold water in the backyard.
Yes....I'm a softy.
