Well, I made my plans today to go to the Dachshund picnic on July 12th in Kent, OH.
We are staying at the Days Inn Kent on Edson Rd.
I'll have to see where that is from the park when the website goes up.
Is anyone else planning to go? Where are you staying?
I hope to meet at least a few of you there. Irma, are you going, we were talking about it in AZ, but not sure what your plans are.

Eileen,
Do you have more info. that you could share about the picnic? Is it a weekend event? Who's putting it together, etc.? I'll have to check with DH - I think it's a 7+ hour drive for us.....but, could be doable. Thanks. Marianne

Eileen we had thought about it, but I broke a tooth and have cavities and its gonna be close to 4,000 dollars, so I think I will skip it this year.

 I was really worried that I wasn't going to be able to come this year since I have moved to Florida, but I am in my best friends wedding in October and she is having a bridal shower that weekend too so I am planning on coming home!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't know if I will be able to bring Austin with me or not b/c I will most likely be flying home.
Marianne-
It is only on Saturday, July 12th from 12-4pm. Last year there were over 600 dachshunds there. It is absolutely the best! There isn't any info posted yet on their website but the website for the picnic is www.neodachs.org
There are many rescue groups that come out and there are companies (along with rescues) that set up booths to sell products (2 yrs ago I bought a wine glass with all 3 coats on it, last year I got a purse w/ dog prints, a t-shirt, and a couple of bumper stickers). They also have Dachshund Delights there and will fit your baby with a new harness if they need one. There are tons of pics on their website.
This picnic is a total blast and I am really happy that I will be able to come home for it. I just have to work it around my work schedule.
Here is the link from last years picnic pics: 2007 NEO Dachshund Picnic (http://www.dachsie.org/vbb/showthread.php?t=40474&highlight=Ohio)
I hope this helps. If you have any questions let me know!

So, Juliette are you coming?:rofl:

Yes, I was looking for the new website, but it's not up yet. But I'll keep my eye open for it.
I didn't know it was only 4 hrs, I thought it was like from 9-4, but that's probably enough for my husband.
We will have to figure out where to meet.
I might buy a small xpen to bring with me, since we're doing a road trip.
It takes us about 10 1/2 hrs from MA, but we're doing a couple of days in Ohio Amish country before the picnic, so we're making a regular vacation out of it.
Irma,
I am disappointed that you won't be able to go. I was hoping you'd be there with us.
Those of us going will have to figure out something so we'll recognize one another.
We'll have to work on it.
Maybe I could figure out a logo or something and put it on photobucket and we could do a transfer on a certain color t-shirt or something.
Even something as simple as a black "DBB" with the DBB logo on a white t-shirt.
Is it ok if we use the board's initials for something like this Bob?
I'll work on it.

Eileen why don't you go with a red T-shirt and white logo. I had that idea last year when I thought of going this year.

Irma,
I forgot about the red, I'll have to see if AC Moore's has the red in my size and Ally's.
That would look great.
Really wish you guys could go, this may be my only shot.
It's a long drive and not one my husband will want to do more than once.
Thanks for the reminder on this

Kane & I are going ! We just have the best time !! It's about a 45 minute drive for us but thats nothing. This will be the 3rd yr we have went and every yr has gotten better and better.
All the DDB members should meet up maybe the day before somewhere for dinner or something!! Shirts would be a great idea !! Im up for that! Matter of fact I can look into getting some made if everyone else would be into it!

I love the idea of the shirts. We could even do blue if we wanted to (like a bright royal), I know the logo stands out with blue too, as it would with red. Just another idea. Maybe something like a small logo on the front left hand side of the shirt with a large logo on the back. I don't know just thinking of some ideas. I can see if I can come up with anything too. I know you can print an iron-on transfer and it would be really easy to do.
Ooo I am so looking forward to coming home in July, I got it cleared with my boss, I may have to take 1 days w/out pay (as I won't be able to use PTO b/c I won't have been there for 6 months yet). We will have to see what I can do.

I love it Irma.
I checked with Mark and he has okayed us making the shirts.
Here's an idea:
Small DBB logo w/ screen name on the front, left side.
On the back, larger logo w/ I am the mom/dad/hooparent of.....
I will see if I can play around with some stuff and make a mock-up of it.

Ok, I did this up on my computer real quick tonight. The pics are the best as I printed it out on a transparency which doesn't show its true colors against the red shirt. I am not sure how we are going to do this, if one person is going to do the shirts or if everyone will do their own, but Mark has given us special permission to use the logo to make shirts for this event. Let me know what you think:

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y61/Chef2bK/IMG_3201.jpg
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y61/Chef2bK/IMG_3198.jpg
Some changes I want to make- I want to make the image on the back larger, however I will need to play with my program to see if I will be able to.
Also, I would LOVE to be able to add North East Ohio Dachshund Picnic 2008 on one of the sleeves of the shirt.
So any other ideas? Suggestions? I am open for anything.

I think this is the largest we are going to be able to have the logo if we print it using a home printer (which I think is the best option). Luckily I have a program that will print the inverse image specifically for iron-on transfers. I will see if I can get some transfer paper and a red shirt tomorrow and make one to see how it turns out.
I also have an "in" with the designer of the logo and they are going to try and send it to me if they can find it so that when I enlarge the image it won't be so fuzzy/pixilated.

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y61/Chef2bK/IMG_3207.jpg
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y61/Chef2bK/IMG_3210.jpg
I haven't done the back yet, I am waiting to see if Uncle Bob has the actual image stored rather then trying to enlarge a copied one b/c when I blow it up to make it bigger it gets all blurry.
I am also thinking, I know the reason of the red shirts to stand out, but I can tell you from experience that there are a TON of people there, we may actually stand out more if we do just plain white. Also, I think the image will show up better against the white. If we went with the red then we would still have to do it like I did and use printable fabric and have the white background. Just another thought. Let me know what you think.

Great work, Kate! I think I agree that #1 the logo may not show up that well on red #2 there could be a lot of people wearing red (close to July 4th and people just seem to gravitate to wearing red). White might be the way to go. :thanx: for all of your efforts.

Tucker's Mom
03-09-2008, 04:38 PM

The back is still a bit pixilated but I was able to clear it up a bit using word, then I had to transfer it to a program that I already had (printmaster) that can print the inverse so that it prints the mirror image so that when you iron it on it comes out correctly.
I am glad you like it! Now we have to figure out the plan on how everyone is going to get the shirts, if one person is going to make them, etc. Let me me know. I have everything that I did saved on my computer.

Trying to convince hubby that he wants to go! LOL. He is not sure about traveling 12+ hours with three dogs! And of staying somewhere with three dogs. Ideal would be a campground with cabins that allow pets though most do not allow pets in their cabins. We have friends about an hour from Kent but the dogs would have to sleep in the barn due to allergies; no pets in their house, not even ours whom they love. I will keep working on hubby; where there's a will there's a way. We missed it last year as we were in Ohio in June :faint: and I said we were going this year but will have to see.

We most likely saw each other last year but didn't realize who we really were. :Sun2:
I really like the idea of getting all of the DBB members together the night before the picnic for dinner or what not. We will just have to figure out where we can do it with all of the puppers in tow.
My parents live about an hour away and have a fenced in yard but I would have to ask them before I offer up their house for a cookout or whatever.
It could also be when we hand out the shirts if one person is going to make them--which we also need to figure out. Does anyone have any suggestions?
I don't mind making them but we will have to figure out a way in order to do it, which I could too but I don't want to make the decisions for everyone. I can work on a form that I could e-mail to those who want one for all of the info that I will need.
If you have any specific ideas feel free to PM me or post here.

Kate,
My opinion, but you seem to be doing a GREAT job! You are like me, when you're on a roll, you go with it!
I would suggest getting everyone's email address that would like a shirt and then as a group email send out the information you would need (size, payment, etc). We could PM you that information, but that might fill up your box pretty quickly!

03-11-2008, 07:07 AM
That is fine with me, if it is okay with everyone else. I don't want to step on any ones toes or take over something they had planned either.
So if everyone is cool with this, PM me your e-mail address, I will create the form and e-mail it out to everyone.
And if my PM box didn't get overfilled when I was taking in everyone's names for secret santa, I think I will be good with this :D

Kate,
I do like the white, and agree about white being better in the heat, although I know why Irma said red, so we'd stand out.
Also, I like the idea of just having our screen name under the logo, rather than trying to fit all of the pups names. You are doing a great job, no problem here if you want to go with it. I love the picnic name on the sleeve too, is there a patent on that? Or doesn't it matter because you just wrote it with no logo (just curious, not trying to drum up problems)
I will be ordering 2 because I don't think hubby would be interested in a t-shirt (he won't even wear Izod because it has the logo of an alligator on it), but Ally will definitely want one. I'll surprise her with it.
She's all excited about this picnic.
How much do you think they will be, incl shipping? Doesn't matter, where do you go for the shirts?
For info on convincing hubby, I made a deal with mine, the first 4 days are his to plan as he wants Tues-Fri, and Saturday is mine, He was very agreeable to that as he wants to stop in Johnstown,PA to see where the flood was, go to Pittsburgh to see Duchenne's Incline(he's a science teacher, so he teaches this type of thing), then he wants to spend 2 days in Ohio Amish Country, that will take us to early Friday pm, I'm sure if I suggested a cookout or picnic or whatever he'd be fine with that. We have made this our summer excursion. I've already booked 2 of the 4 rooms, and the rental car.
I like to plan ahead.
I almost thought we weren't going to be able to go after our weekend.
I went down cellar Sunday pm to find that our hot water heater had burst and we had 2 inches of water all over cellar, and had to replace the heater, but my husband said that as long as we are getting that $1500 from that IRS rebate, we'll just use that for our vacation, so I have to finish up our taxes and file so we'll get that money in plenty of time for vacation.
Kate, great job, and I'll pm you my e-mail address for the form and are you going to put your address for us to mail it back with a check?
Thanks for all your hard work on this.

Gayle,
I was excited to see you are planning to come also. How long a drive is it for you? or are you flying?

I don't believe there is a patent on the name, I don't know. I just know thats the name.
I will e-mail out the forms once I have them created. I will also give you my address. I am not sure as to the cost of them, I was just playing this weekend but I will be sure to look next weekend when I go out to price everything out.
As far as getting them to you, I was thinking about the picnic/cookout the night before, to meet everyone (so we be sure to actually see everyone and not walk around like crazy loons looking for others wearing the shirt or missing each other like has happened in the past) and I could pass them out then. That way we wouldn't have to pay for shipping and no one would have the opportunity to forget them at home if they are traveling. If you want them shipped I could do that but I won't know how much that would be.
So--Those of you who want a shirt for the picnic- PM me your email address by April 1st! That way I have a little while to get the material and make them. If you express an interest in this thread and don't PM me I will PM you to see if you still want one after April 1st.

It is definite?
It's about a 12 hr drive for us from MA, but we are making it a whole family vacation, stopping in Pennsylvania for 1 night to see a couple of things around Pittsburgh, then on to Ohio Amish Country, then the picnic and then we just decided this week to extend it by one day and drive up to Niagara Falls, my granddaughter has never seen the falls.
Then home, possibly by way of Rochester to see my niece.
I have 2 weeks off in July, so this will fall perfectly right in there and we'll have 4 or 5 days on either end to just relax at home.

I still have to get my pictures up on the computer and downloaded, but am having so many problems with the new computer system. I have my husband on 2 hard drives now, one for all his stored files, including pictures, and one for the internet strictly.
I bought a flip for it, but can't get it to flip back to the old hard drive, I think I did the install process backwards, I hooked up the flip to both computers, then tried to install the software, but it won't let me into the old hard drive to install, so I'm spending my Friday night unhooking everything and resetting up the old way and then installing the software.
I'll get it one of these days. A computer genius I'm not, but at least I can follow directions, or thought I could LOL.
Well, I do hope you'll join us in Kent, love to see you again.
I will send pics as soon as I get computers figured out.

Well, as of right now he will be staying in Florida. Continental raised their in-cabin pet fees to $95/way ($190 round trip! thats almost as most as my ticket!). If things don't work out and I can't find someone to watch him I will bring him with me and pay the money. But don't worry we still will have Aj with us.

This year it is July 12 from 12-4. You don't really have to sign up for it, you just show up. Now we are doing something a bit different this year since so many DBBer's are coming and we are making shirts (well I am making them for whoever would want one) and we are planning a Friday get together, most likely at my parents house which is an hour from Kent in Seville to meet everyone and hand out the shirts. If you would like one PM me with your e-mail address and I will send you the form. I hope you can come!
Here are the websites:
There isn't any info posted yet on their website but the website for the picnic is www.neodachs.org
Here is the link from last years picnic pics: 2007 NEO Dachshund Picnic (http://www.dachsie.org/vbb/showthread.php?t=40474&highlight=Ohio)
I hope this helps. If you have any questions let me know!

This has nothing to do with the NEO dachshund picnic, but does any of your attend the Midwest Dachsiefest in Danville, IL? I know its not as big as the one in Ohio...the one in Danville is the one I'll probably be going to. Even though Kent is like an hr from my brother (Wooster) I think....Its 8hrs for me
Hope everyone has fun!! Maybe we can plan next year coming. If I was in a public school I could manage...but being in a year around private school...we are actually in session in the summer.

Kate,
You're only bringing one with you? I was hoping to meet you all.
I get more excited everytime I read that somebody else is coming.
You can definitely count on the 3 of us plus the 2 pups. Should I bring an ex pen (to your parents and picnic on Saturday)?
Did you get both of my forms?
Are there a lot of booths? food? (Although I was thinking of bringing a picnic basket with our own sandwiches because hubby doesn't eat hot dogs, and I shouldn't). When will the website for 2008 go up?
So many questions, so little time :Sun2:
That is really nice of your folks to allow us all to invade their home.
DoxieJoy,
I am glad you are joining us, only 1 hr away, that's great.
Amy,
Your brother lives in Wooster huh, that's where we are staying our first 2 nights in OH, my husband wants to see Ohio Amish country.
Sorry you can't be with us though.

Ssshhh...I am at work.....but its a slow day.
Since it is going to cost so much to fly Austin home with me, he will most likely end up staying here in FL. I would absolutely love to be able to bring him home but $195 to fly him in cabin (i would never fly him in cargo) is just a bit much especially since I had to buy 2 plane tickets (one for july and one for october when I am coming home to be in my best friends wedding).
As far as the x-pan, we should be okay for Friday but definitely bring it on Saturday. My parents have a fenced in area where the pups can run and play. Saturday you will need it though.
Yes I got both of your forms.
The only food available is the hot dogs so if you don't like them or "shouldn't" have them then it would be a great idea to bring your own. There will be other booths set up but those are for knick-knacks and what nots.
Wooster is only 20 minutes from my house so it will be easy for you to come from Wooster to Seville. I can PM you directions when the time gets closer.
Ok back to work.

Kate,
I will actually be in Kent the night of our get together, I will be checking out of the Wooster Motel on Friday morning, but it's not that long a ride, so we'll go check into our Kent hotel, and then drive back to your folks.
Either that or I will call them and tell them it will be a late check in.
Oh, I was hoping to see your little guy, but I certainly understand your situation, that's alot of money on top of 2 tickets for yourself.
As far as the xpen, ok, I just want to make it easy on everyone, and if you need something for Friday night do not hesitate to ask.
I will give you my cell as we get closer.

I am so hoping to see everyone this time. We have gone the last 3 yrs and just love it. We are just under 2 hrs since we live in a Columbus suburb. I hope all of us that went last year from my Meetup group here can come again. I will get in touch with them and see if they are coming. I know I want a tshirt. CarmensMom may want a shirt. I will check with her or she may see this and pm you herself.
I don't know if we will be there on Friday or not. We usually bring our Shelties also. I have met Kate and Austin and AJ as well as a few other DBB members. I know Lori and Beckie Decker and Anita have set up their xpens under the trees along the roadway just a shot distance from the shelter house. That might be a good place to set up also or between the shelter house and the potties :D
We usually get there pretty early so could help save some space to set up xpens.

Eileen, I agree! :D I like your sense of humor! I'm not sure if Paul & the Shelties will come this year. He doesn't like to leave his "boys" at home and its too far and too long a day for them to be alone. Its always very hot and Apollo & Casey just don't handle it well. There isn't anything for them to do( except we have had some guys, as they stroll by, comment "Look real dogs! Hey(insert wifes name) can we get one of those too?!" :happy030:

If you don't want a shirt, could you still PM me your e-mail? As the time gets a little closer I will be sending out an invite for a DBB Friday night get together at my parents house (about an hour from Kent).
For those of you who did get shirts, I am starting to work on them again. It looks like the overall cost is going to be about $8-$10 but I will let you know the final figure via e-mail when I have it complete.

Be sure to take her to the Canadian side of the falls. I have seen lots of beautiful sites here in this country but Niagara Falls is my favorite...it is awesome!!! Don't forget your birth certificate to cross the border into Canada...is that what they require???
longtimecouple1
04-16-2008, 01:02 PM
Yes, thank you, we are going to the Canadian side. We actually applied for the passport card for each of us, it's much cheaper than the passport book.
If we need the regular later we can get it, but this is all we need to cross the border by auto, and I have no immediate plans to go anywhere out of the country by air for awhile. I've been there twice, once when about 8 yrs old on family vacation, once with hubby about 12 yrs ago, we went up for the Shaw Festival, and saw the falls, first time hubby had ever seen it. Unfortunately, I got very sick at end of trip and had to rush home, had my gall bladder removed 2 days later. Fun!!
But anyway, thank you, I am looking forward to the whole trip, I have had such fun planning it, and just like our trip to AZ in Feb, it comes and goes so quickly.

I am getting very excited, even my husband is really looking forward to it. I just sent for my trip tik from AAA, for the different legs of the trip. I was going to print it online, but it was going to be 92 pgs, so I just printed out the directions from Johnstown to Pittsburgh, and from our hotel to Plum Creek park (via Subway sandwich shop to pick up lunch on the way).
I did have to correct one of my hotel confirmations, they had hubby and I, no mention of my granddaughter or the dogs, so they corrected it and resent it to me Tuesday. So we're all set, now all I need are some summer clothes.
Birthday's coming up, hinted to hubby this morning that I need some shorts for the trip.
I guess we'll be doing a shopping spree next week.

Well I can tell you that Friday is going to be a very long day for me as my plane takes off at 8am, which means my venture home begins Thursday after I leave work (which I will get there early so I can leave early) driving down to Uncle Bob's house. Austin will be staying here over the weekend. I will then get up really early to leave for the airport and fly home. My brother will be picking me up at the airport in Cleveland and we will be off to go get supplies for Friday night. Then its home to setup and wait for everyone. So by Friday night needless to say I am going to be exhausted. Catch a little bit of sleep Friday night and head to the picnic on Saturday. I have Sunday free and then I fly back on Monday. Needless to say its going to be a crazy whirlwind of a trip but since I don't get PTO until I am working 6 months and it will be 1 month short I can't get any more time off. I am working the weekend before I come home and the weekend after I get back so that I don't lose any pay.

If you look close enough there is another surprise, but can anyone guess what it is? (Tucker's mom can't guess!!! She already knows).
For those I am mailing (Luvmygunner and DLLTAPS) yours will be in the mail as soon as I can get to the post office. Everyone else, I will be bringing yours home with me and handing them out at the Friday get together or if you can't make it, Saturday at the picnic.

You can if you want to, but if you want to hold off and wait and see if the others can figure it out thats up to you.
Thanks! I had a good time making them, now I just have to wait until July (like everyone else).

Is the logo updated? There's a dachshie in a pink tutu on the shirt that I don't see above.

The logo is changed. Not totally new but some new pics and some of the original pics have moved. More space in the bottom center of it; slightly new shape may be a better way to say that.
We are staying at the Days Inn on Convenience Circle in Canton. It is difficult to find anyplace reasonable that will take more than one dog. We first thought of the Motel 6 in New Philadelphia since that is closer to where our friends live but they would only take 1. Days Inn seemed to be the main chain that didn't say only one or be like "WHAT!" when we said we were bringing 3. Just the $10 a night charge per dog and of course they expect them not to bark all the time. Even our friends aren't comfortable with us bringing three; they live on a farm and have never had an indoor dog at all. BTW- My friend needs prayers, she fell last week on a step in the house and broke her foot, wrist and elbow. She is a beautician with her own shop and will be out of work for 8 weeks; she has a couple of people who will come in and help her out part time to keep the business going. They work for her when she goes on vacation or at really busy times like if she has a wedding or prom day.
My hubby is working on some new wood projects with a dachsie theme- line carvings, leash holders, pull toys, and will have a vendor booth set up. Any ideas for items? PM me; he is open to ideas. He wasn't sure if he wanted to at first but we emailed with Karen and he decided to go for it.
We are so excited! We got the stroller on Sat and the dogs love it; I think it will be really helpful especially since ours do not like a lot of strangers touching them or being around other dogs when they are on a leash. They can see out and people can see them without direct contact.

The logo has been changed! I was able to get the old one e-mailed to me and I redid it Friday night. Got a few more of our current puppers in it. Now I am just waiting for my uncle to replace the new one with the old one. :D
Christena- thats cool that your hubby is making wooden items for dachsies (and their hoomans).
Also, an update, they are working on this years flyer and it will hopefully be posted on their website by next week.
Man, July can't come soon enough!!!

Gosh Kate its been so busy I haven't had a chance to get on here lately but I wanted to let you know I love the shirts and can't wait to see everyone. A new member of our Meetup group here is interested in coming so I will keep her posted on the happenings. She signed up for the DBB yesterday and needs to learn how to navigate it.
Once things settle down here I will see what the plan is for July and see what happens as to whether we come early or not.

Your friend who just joined is more then welcome to come too!! If she would like a shirt too, I have a few supplies left--you can just have her PM me or you can give her my e-mail address to get in contact with me.

I know what you mean Cathy, but it's near the beginning of the summer, so the rest of the summer can go by slowly, as long as July 11th comes real quick!

I am not wanting to wish the summer away either but I am SO looking forward to going home (first time since I have moved to FL) and also meeting everyone!! So I guess I am wishing away the month of June and the rest of the summer can go slowly. :Sun2:

If just June can go by fast, (which my husband would 2nd as he's anxious for the end of the school year now) and get to July 11th, then after the 12th it can go by slowly as it wants (that will give us more time after to talk about the picnic and post pics) :Sun2:
