How many Dachsies do you have?

juliette
01-30-2003, 09:52 AM
My two   dachsies....

My condo rules only allow two - which is good, as I only have two arms and my furkids INSIST on being carried up the street to do their business on cold mornings.

We started out with one only, Cooper.
It took me 7 years to convince my husband that we needed another, Mini.
It has only taken 5 years to convince him that we should add Rover to the family.
If the current trend continues, I should be getting another one in three years!

is all we can handle! Geez..what an active boy he is. We really technically aren't allowed ANY pets in our building so we are lucky that Chief has gotten away with it. There are lots of others who do have pets though, so I guess as long as they are not being a nuisance (which he USED to be) it's ok. Some day when we move into a house I'll definitely be adding one to our pack.

OK, I have 4 -- so that is how I voted, but the foster number varies. The most was 5 and the least was one -- commonly 2. So I have somewhere between 4 and 9. Rena and the Waco pack

OK so I have 3, but would love to have more. But can't get more than I can afford $$$$ vets are exspensive.

Ivy, Con-Man, & Chewz-It are all blk/tan, standard. 2 longhaired 1 smooth.

The we have 2 cats and 2 cavies.

What I want is a mini donkey, a goat, a mini horse, canary or 2 or 3. Plus the barn that I can move into with all these animals. Because you know my house partner would kick me out!!!

But if I ever win the lottery, besides donating to some of the abuse shelters and homeless animals I would get that farmette. And someone to do the work!!!!!!

I am waiting to find out if the rescue girl I offered to take is pregnant or not. If so, it'll be 5 more weeks till birth (+ or -), and then at least 8 weeks before they are weaned... [and if I had a larger-than-a-quarter-of-an-acre lot, I'd have more than 4! :)

I think we have reached the limit at 4 dachsies. Our new senior rescue sleeps in his own bed in our room. That was the condition to adopting him The other 3 are in our bed and there is no more room. We also have a border collie mix and a queenie. We just lost our other ueenie a month ago, she was 7.

Casey sleeps on the floor next to the bed with a large blanket. Tried one of the big pillows he didn't use it. Missy is a real bed bug she snuggles up as close as possible when shes ready to sleep. My husband woke up the other night to find her sitting on my hip (I sleep on my side) just looking around. He just closed his eyes again quick so he would get her started romping on the bed. She wants to play every couple of hours.
She loves the ramp we put by the bed for her. She runs up it and then does a super pup diving thing usually landing somewhere on my head. :bounce:
It is funny when she does it.

She thinks its big fun.

I have 2.5 doxies, Dolly is 1/2 dachshund and coon hound, Otto and Gert are full blooded. Buddy is the BIG submissive German shepard golden retriever mix and I'll finally name all the cats:

Kali 10
Janet 5
Squeaker 4
Burnie 3
Sixes 3

Angus 9 mnths

Too many pets to be considered sane or legal.

changes have been made to numbers all over the place. I now have Missy, Zeke and Casey. I am happy with my 3 and think will stay where we are on the number. Missy and Zeke like the number also. One dachsie on each side is how they like things. Casey has my feet so I am covered with love.

Well, let's see. We had 3- Darby,Patty & Laila. Then Daby and Patty decided to have a family. They had 5. 2 went to their new mommies. And for some reason, I have yet to figure out, 3 stayed with us. The boys, Sam, Schnoppy & Mickey (Monster) will be 1 year old in February.
So that puts us at 6. A little too many, but we love them all. And our bed is very very very crowded!

other pets, as in other dogs. I have a total of 7 dogs that range in size from Quincy at 82 lbs. to Isobel at 12 lbs. and a bunch of weights in the middle.

I would love to have another dachsie...but eight dogs total would be a little too much. The vet bills alone for the year are huge with the ones I have now....:yikes: But I wouldn't move any of them out. Love the little buggers to darn much!:D

Oh this one's hard- I can easily picture myself with my own little dachshund army! Realistically, a three-pack of our own and a foster or two will probably be our limit- but if my plan to retire (by age 30) in a 20 room mansion works out... all bets are off! :D

I have to say four is my limit. I figure with two eyes I can keep one eye per two dachis that's if I cross them. Plus with two hands I can alternate petting. Right now Im on three different types of dog food, two water bowls, two beds, and I can walk them two per each hand on a good day.

They have been teaming in pairs two, the two younger and the two older. That means double trouble. If I find Merlin in something there is Mirri. If Magic decides to explore I can usually find Misty.

I was told by family members ok we can except four, but more? If I call my sister and say I want one more she would tell me to get my head examined:eek: But I have to say more the merrier. SHHHH..don't tell her that!

As of 1 Jan 2004, I am know owned by 9 doxies. Nine of the most sweetest furbabies you can ever imagine.

I have: GOOSEMan, Trey, Sassy, Weezer, Kohls, Elsa, Phonix, Sofia, Boann.

Everyone of them except for ELSA and BOANN are special needs but they do not realize it.

GOOSEMan and Boann are mini at 6 pounds.
Elsa is a big standard wheaton wire at 34 pounds
Everyone else are tweenies.

my old post.
I was up to 6 for a short time. Cassie is going to a wonderful home and then I was down to 5.
Cash my foster is going to his new home this Saturday.
That will put me back to 4.
I think 4 is plenty. The more you have the more fights. I cannot handle the fighting. It scares me so bad. Although I wish I still had Cassie. I miss her so much. But knowing that we have her a wonderful home on the way is well worth it.

Let's see, we have just one Doxie, Buddy, who has been with us just over a year. I would love to get #2, but hubby goes back and forth on the issue. Was just emailing back and forth with his breeder who I stay in touch with and he really was interested in her take on adding #2 to the house. I felt it was major progress. Plus, he was speachless when he found out Buddy's dad just fathered a piebald litter that had a black and tan piebald which is what he really would want for #2, but that the pup was sold since someone put a deposit on him before he was born. Been sending him picks of Beau as well, see if he falls for a rescue. But, due to our large, loud family, I would be very picky about adding a rescue pupper to our group. While we would love him or her, I wouldn't want to add to any puppers already stressful life by being thrown into our midst. It's one reason I won't even consider an older rescue doxie, I just don't think it would be fair. Hoping one of these days he will bend and I believe he gets closer all the time, but he feels like he gets cornered by the rest of us at times, so this truly has to be HIS decision. A little bait once in a while isn't a bad thing though.

I voted for other pets on the poll since we have two very large cats, Tigger and Pooh, as well as 2 leopard geckos, Lizzy and Ginger, all the crickets that await their doom at mealtime and live out the last of their days on the top of our fridge and of course, we can't forget the fishtank with it's residents.

Normally, I have 2 but I have had my son's 3 since July. He and his wife are moving from Arkansas to Northern Virginia and I am keeping the dogs until their house sells. His wife if going to Virginia at the end of the month so 2 of the dogs are going and one will stay because their apartment will only allow 2 dogs and they can't buy a new house until the old house sells. Anybody looking for a new home in Arkansas?

Wow. The numbers certainly have changed a bit since this post was started.
We have just the two dachshunds, Ruben and Trenyce.
Hubby will eventually have his #3: Shelby, a female, smooth b/t mini. Yeah, he knows what he wants, and already has her name picked out. I say not until the carpet is gone and the laminate is down. I'm the one who spends more time at home, and I don't want to manage three yet.
Never want a pet other than a dog! I've had others, but the dachshund is the "right pet" for us (I researched it! :D ) --- well, all except for the potty training and submissive peeing, and peeing on soft things...

Two is enough. I wanted a pair and I have quite the pair. They're a ton of work. Mr. Butters is so particular and demands so much, and Ms. Rigby is just so affectionate she wants my attention all of the time. I can't imagine adding a third to this dynamic pair. Two is my limit.

Four doxies, 1 great pyr/border collie, 1 cat, 2 parakeets. I'd like to adopt a senior doxie someday - the ones I see on the rescue sites look so forlorn. It's terrible to see them abandoned because of age or those whose mom/dad passed away or is now too ill to care for them anymore. I really feel for these "oldies". Barbara

I have only 2 doxies, I would love to have a third but oh well, one day, one day. :) I also have a aussie shepherd and co-own one of my father's doxies, does that count? haha My father has a total of 6 doxies, two minis and four standards. I've grown up with those dogs, 5 of them are getting to be seniors, the time flies too fast! He also keeps my aussie since mom won't let her stay inside. Argh..lol :)

Duh, I'm a dork. :dorky: I put that I have "3" Dachshunds. I really only have TWO, and one that just wishes he were a Dachsie (he's a Lab/Chow).

Now, that's quite a different answer than "How many is enough for you" You see, we're in a city that has a limit of 3 dogs per household. I'd MUCH rather have a little fleet of Dachsies, more to the tune of half a dozen -- now THAT is closer to "enough" :circle:

Hans says 2 is enough. Heh, heh. Little does he know that my secret plans are to build a Weenie Ranch with my first lottery winnings. :halo:

I only have the 1 doxie & 2 mixed breeds. When I read the stories about those of you who have multiple doxies & the fun they have together, it really makes me want to have another one. My husband and I have almost a small petting zoo in our home. We have our dachsie, Missy, her new best friend, Heidi, my cat, Oreo, and we have 2 male ferrets, Trip and Bear and 2 female ferrets, Cinna and Rosie.

We have to keep the ferrets caged and away from Missy. Missy views them as something she's supposed to hunt and she tried to bite one of the ferrets when we first brought her home and introduced her to them. Obviously ferrets brought out her natural instinct to hunt burrowing animals.

From the first post I had added I have now only 2 doxies. Con-Man & Zorba da Beastie.
Also my roommate has to parakeets and I have one canary.
No more kitty cats or any cavies.

The on going battle is should we or shouldn't we. This has been a constant battle for different reasons for us. When I wanted another doxie she didn't. When she wanted another one I didn't. Now I am back to saying yes and she is saying no.
We have friends that have a beautiful little girl they would love for us to take. Born on my favorite doxies birthday. Sept. 19th. She is a longhair standard, red. What more could we ask for? Right?!?
We both have health and back problems. Which means a puppy is really hard for us to train and take care of. Plus we have Con who really doesn't like puppies. So we take turns saying yes one day and no the other. Besides the money in the first year can be pretty high. But we need to be on the same page of thinking on this. Last time we had gotten a puppy was Zor almost 3 years now. He was and still can be a handful. Plus Con and his health problems and attitude. So if we both feel week at the same time. You will hear about a new puppy in our life. If not, God is protecting us from ourselves.  We are both doxie addicted. Some times that is good other times not so good.
So in the meantime... I will just keep bouncing back and forth till I hear that the little girl is sold. We really should only get a minnnnnnniiiiinnnnnnnniiiii. Like my first mini only 8lbs. That I could handle on my lap. Another 20 or more lb. doxie would be hard on either one of us.
So sorry for being so long winded but this has been an on going struggle with us both.
Of course I always want another one it is do I have the power to responsible and say no?! Not right now.:sorry: :faint:

I only have one but am considering another so my Maya will have someone to play with and hopefully help with her separation anxiety.help2: It's going to be expensive to board two dogs or travel with two, that's for sure.

Pet sitters would be better, if you could find someone reliable, when you travel - if you can't take your pupper(s) with you!

Since my earlier post, we've lost our beloved Ruben, but added Kalise (who IS smooth B/t, but is NOT named Shelby), and have just added that little beast boy, Dylan. 3 is IT, or hubby sleeps in the garage!:sorry:
That's enough! When we sell this place,:crsfnger:, and build the new one, the association rules are "two dogs." Guess who will be on the board?!

We have one, but we're thinking about adding his sister to our family. The breeder has two of his sisters and one I had fell completely in love with. We're visiting her tomorrow to make our decision. :Sun2:

I have three little pests, lol.....and would be happy to have more, if I could afford to stay home with them all the time. As it is, our work hours allow us to never have to leave them alone all day. Occassionally, they stay by themselves a few hours while we go out shopping.

I was sitting on the bed today, playing with them, and for no particular reason, it crossed my mind how terrible it would be to have to seperate them. Forgive me, Yolanda, but I told my dh that if something awful should happen to me, and he could not take care of them, and my dil could not take care of them....to please, please get in touch with you. I know you would make sure they all got a home together. But rest assured, I am DISGUSTINGLY HEALTHY, lol....and plan to stay that way, if only for their sakes.

We have one Doxie and one other dog and we haven't decided what our maximum Doxie number is as we've yet to reach it! Although I don't think I could do more than two under six months old, at least not right now...
