I had ever been able to show Dixie.....I'm wondering how she would have done........

I have been looking at websites that have their Doxie in show position on the table (sorry, don't know the technical term) and their back legs look like they are scrunched down???
Like this

:008: Dixie's back legs don't look like that at all and I tried for fun to make her do that with her legs.....it didn't work so well as you can see in the pics below....She was more interested in the food I had stretched out in my arm and she was sliding all over the counter trying to get to it:sorry:.

Then, I tried to get a few head shots of her.....and now I am just wondering how my little doodle would have done if we had been able to show her. Of course in my opinion.....CHAMPION:one::star:

Does anyone have any thoughts???? I'm just curious and I PROMISE you will not hurt my feelings by being honest!!!

I of course think she's gorgeous!!!! :Sun2: (I might be partial to LH reds though!)

The only thing I can really see is that her ear fur isn't very full. Does she have a deep chest? I couldn't really tell from the pictures.

I've tried many many times to stack mine like they do for shows. No...they wanted nothing to do with it. After awhile Mousse thought he was in trouble and just went belly up! :faint: hahaha

I think Mousse could have done pretty well. But of course I know my little Cocoa-puff wouldn't have even gotten pitty points :sob:.

Its called "stacked" I do believe. It takes practice and training to get the dogs to do that! Dont feel bad that Dixie doesnt do it!

Thats all I know about showing...hopefully others will chime in

It's called being 'Stacked' Some self stack (merry does) It's to show the proper angles of the front and rear structure. Most all will do it naturally but need to be trained to do it on a table or when standing for exam and someone is watching them

No, I wouldn't say her ear fur is really thick. In my opinion it is fairly thick undercoat with the long hair coat over them being thinner.
As for her chest, it is becoming deeper but it does come out over her legs with her legs being under the part that sticks out....meaning her chest is sticking out past her legs.....if that makes sense. She is still only ten months old if that makes a difference. She has this bone on her chest that comes to like a point in front...above and between her legs. That is where she is getting bigger.
This makes me feel so dumb that I don't know anything about the terminology and what they should look like:faint:

Now, I feel really stupid.....I couldn't see much difference in the three skeletons that were running!!!!!!!!!!:faint:

Oh, that's right she's still a baby! Mousse's deep chest didn't come in right away, but wow when it did...he had a very proud stride. We always called it "him strutting his stuff" because he would stick out his chest and walk with his head held high and really strut around.

I think it has more to do with the back legs. The middle one has such a short stride, the first one has a longer stride and the foot kicks back sort of. The last one a longer stride than the middle one, but not longer than the first one, and the foot doesn't kick back either. Also the last one, the front legs move much more (has a much wider stride).

The movement is much easier to see live and in person. The only other publications I know of are ones that you can order... they are fairly inexpensive

The
Visualization of the Official Dachshund Standard

Illustrated Standard - Dachshund Evaluation Kit
&
The Illustrated Standard of Points of the Dachshund

are all available.. I got to look through them last week and should have picked up some for myself then.

OMGosh, Cathy, those last two pictures are seriously gorgeous - beautiful.:hearts: She's #1 in my book - hands down!:happy030:

Conformation judging can be very subjective (in my opinion). Unless there are some obvious faults, if a judge likes a "certain" look and your dog has it, you can do no wrong.

Oh geesh.....It is almost 1 in the morning and I have her in the back yard doing zoomies so I can watch her legs while she runs!!!! And on top of that I woke her up to see if she has the correct bite!!! Her "gait" looks good to me and she has a perfect scissor bite ;)

Misty is beautiful!!! It must run in their family:hearts: :hug2:.

STACKING observation!?!
After seeing a lot of stacking pictures, I'm beginning to realize that this is NOT a natural position for Dachshunds. It seems their back legs are too far behind them for them to walk/run in that position. It almost as if their back legs are in a kneeling position unnaturally and their "heels" are out past their bums.
It looks like in the stacking position it "levels" their backs so they look straight horizontally. And that if they stand in a normal position their bums would be a little higher than their shoulders with the rear legs extended upwards for walking.....is that correct????
If I put D in the stacking position.....her back is completely horizontal. If she is just walking around her bum is a LITTLE higher than her shoulders....is that the way it normally is for other doxies???

Well, of course it's not the same in movement or in the stacked position. It's kind of like a runway model. They walk, and then they pose at the end. The stack is like that pose.

As that website Karen put up illustrated, the gait of the dog is the most important part of judging confirmation.

Maybe there are some shows in your area coming up? They are fun to go to.

The dog show I just went to had the cutest littlest wire babies that were 10 months old. They were so cute!!!!!!! Other then that I couldn't tell you much about your baby.:Sun2:

If you look at the link I sent you will see the angles that the 'perfect' dachshund should have.. that is what stacking demonstrates. You should, when you have an opportunity, go to some shows and watch what goes on... The dogs are taken around the ring.. put up on tables for exam... taken around again.. and again... as many times as needed...watch the smooths in particular.. very hard to hide faults on a smoothie!

It is VERY hard to judge your own dog... we all think our dogs are perfect.. heck I have 4! :D

This may be a stupid question which I think I know the answer to, but just thought Id ask.

Can a neutered/limited registration dachshund participation in confirmation?

A candid photo of Tye a couple of months ago. Notice the angle of the shoulders, the elbow under the withers and the angles of the rear legs.. all occuring naturally.

That picture of him is GORGEOUS!!! I guess it is harder to see on LH because I am having trouble "finding" things on Dixie. I'm glad to see that pointy bone on his chest because that is exactly the location and prominence of Dixies. The illustrations you gave me to look at made me think it should be lower on her chest. And when I feel for those parts I see in Tye from this picture, they seem to be in the right places on her also.
Thanks for the picture!!!
