I just seen the tv ad for PetiCure which is a nail file and rotory in one and it makes it so u can't cut into the qwick...Anyone hear or have experience with this as my guy I have to muzzle to do his nails as it is so I am worried about this... My beagle loves his nails clipped but I was wondering if anyone has this?

web site is www.pedicure.com

the website is www.peticure.com. I'm also interested to hear if anyone has ever used it. Sam yelps when I try trimming his nails (I was no where near the quick) so I take him to the vet to get it done. He doesn't like going there, but I don't have any other option. The product looks good, but I wonder how you know where to stop? Is it possible to hit the quick with this product. I'm always skeptical of those as seen on tv products.......

I saw the same thing this weekend and am so interested in it. I took both mine to the groomer/there 1st time getting pampered by someone else other then me doing all the grooming and ofcourse she recommended me getting a dremmel since due to there quick she can't take to much off etc...I was so embarassed b'c I usually always trim there nails every month and trim there behinds etc...Well I let it go for about 2 months and yeah I felt horrible..Ever since Joey cut Rambo's nails and he cut him to close Rambo has been a little wigglie bugger about trimming his nails...Sophie is so easy...But I wanted to see if anyone else has tried it and or should we just get a dremmel. I know it's going for 29.99 plus shipping and a dremmel at a hardware store is probably about 20...

Not too sure how this is much different than a dremel? :dunno:
Is it different??

I use: Amazon.com: Dremel 761-03 7,000/14,000 RPM Cordless Pet Nail Grooming Rotary Tool: Home Improvement

Looks Like a Dremel with a cover for the sandpaper drum.

Looking at the replacement bands - YIKES they want Price
Your Price:
$14.99 for 10 bands I got a 6 pack of Bands for like $4.00 at Lowes or Sears.

As for the unit, I cant comment on the quality and how long it will last. I know Dremels are well made and last. The Peticure one looks like a cordless - where do you get replacement batteries for it. The rotating hole cover is nice especially if you have a dog thats a biter - thats why I give him Peanut Butter. Be careful with the hole openings, too big of a opening will let you grind too much off and you can hit the Quick and with that cover on - the dust from the nails will not let you see it , well until the blood spins off the drum onto into the hole cover.

Dremel or this you can still zap the quick- takes a few times to learn your dogs nails and how close you are getting. But when you do hit the quick its not shocking to the dog, like a pin prick amount of blow comes out. Stay no longer than 3 sec on a nail and move to the next- any longer the heat will be painful for the dog.

I love using the dremel only way I would do it.

I use help as you see in the pic below.... Peanut Butter

I haven't seen the commercials, but it sounds just like a Dremel tool...which many groomers have been using for a long time. I'm not sure if it would be a good choice if your dog already has a fear of nail trims though...I think you'd have to spend more time on each nail, and your pupper may not appreciate the grinding feeling, or the sound. And it would still be possible to grind into the quick, which I'm sure would hurt even more than if it were nicked with the nail clippers! I'd be interested in trying it out though - I do like the idea of not having sharp edges and snags, and it would be much quicker than using a regular file! If anyone tries it out, let us know! My Dad has a Dremel, so maybe next time Myah's due for a trim I'll see if she'll tolerate it.

Yeah I def think you can get a dremel at a local hardware store for cheaper. Did you get yours at lowe's? and if so what was the price, etc...I think I will have to use the peanut butter to get them started/used to it. They are used to the grooming/buzzing sound of the electric shaver so that is a plus :)

I got the cordless one - but it was pricey cause I liked the smallness of it, it fit in your hand easy and had a off button right by your index finger when you are using it.
As for using it I have it set on #6 speed and lower it takes more swipes with it to get it done, The sound is a non issue. Actually the sound when it gets turned on makes the puppy do a dance to get his nails done.
AHHHHHH Pavlov's Theory

The first few weeks leave the dremel off laying next to food bowl when you feed them. then after two weeks turn it on b4 you feed and give command to go eat. turn it off let them eat in peace a week later start turning it back on while they EAT.

If they love peanut butter then the big step to do the nails. let them lick a teaspoon at a time I put in a clean jar while you do the nails. first nail time just a quick tap on the nail and move to next nail and do all 4 paws quick. AFter 2- 3 days work the nails more they should not mind the hum or vibration on the nails. As for getting the quick , what sets a DOG off is the SNIP SNAP of cutter and the shock of instant pain, you wont have that using a dremel, just pay attention

Well, we got a Peticure a few months ago and now we swear by it! You can buy it two ways: as either a complete unit (in one of two sizes, depending on the size of the dog), or as an attachment that fits over most rotary tools (the best known brand of which is, of course, Dremel). We chose the latter option, which was something like $20 plus shipping. The basic difference between just using a Dremel and using the Peticure is that the Peticure is basically a safety device that prevents you from going too far and hitting the quick. (It also prevents any unintentional sanding of anything else, should you miss the nail.) Supposedly, if you use it often enough, you can actually "drive" the quick farther back into the nail, thereby decreasing any future instances of "ouchies." While that remains to be seen, I would recommend it to anyone who clips their own pets' nails. As for the replacement bands, they included a small bag stuffed full of them, which, I would imagine, will last quite awhile. If anybody wants to know more about it, e-mail me.

Thanks all for the responds I think I'm going to give it a try like I said the Beagle as long as someone is standing at his head with food he's all ok but my Doxie has to have a muzzle on and is down right mean about the whole thing and his nail are sooooo long right now I don't know what to do as the pressure on the nail with the clippers I can not get back far enough on him....

I have gotten my pie girl's nails from long to "show short" (about 1/4 inch) in about 2 months. That's giving the nails a buzz every day or 2nd day. The quick does respond by pulling back toward the foot.

As a groomer I have had at least 5 different dremils but I like the Peticure one cause it has a protective cover on it so if the dog bites at it the dogs mouth won't get hurt. All my customers dogs let me use it on them but 2, and I use it on Whitney as she HATES her nails cut. I have Whitney lay on the couch to do hers so she is relaxed and she takes it alot better.
Well, worth the money!!
