At the wiener races I bought Apple Cinnamon dog bones, the kids loved them. I'm looking for a recipe, and all I can find are drop ones that are chewy...I'm looking for something I can roll out and cut anyone have one? Also I want it to be healthy (no honey or sugar).

OK, made them and they are wonderful. But was this for human or Dachsies to eat. If was for the fur kids, I need to make some more, because I got three and my greed husband ate all the rest before they could even cool.

Thank You long time couple!!! I'll try it early next week
Silverselkie it's a dog recipe, but we won't tell if you don't. Actually I bought the original ones at Buda and she had a BBQ one and I asked "how spicy is this? then realized it's a dog treat and said "sorry you probably don't know" She told me she samples every thing she makes.

Okay, making some more for the fur kids. Will not tell husband it was a dog recipe, he likes them. I'll just tell him that it is a cookie that the pups can eat also and he will never know the difference. :Sun2: After all, husband needs healthy no sugar treats also.

It took me a while to find my cookbook. I made the mistake of putting it in a safe place, lol.
I actually have small bone shaped cookie cutters. I bought them from ebay, and have another that I got a couple years ago at the Target $ spot. The little one makes great treat size cookies.
3 cups whole wheat flour
2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 cup all natural applesauce, no sugar added
1 egg
1/2 cup water
In a large bowl, mix all ingredients. Knead dough on floured surface until firm. Roll dough 1/4 inch thick. Cut with cookie cutter of choice. Put on cookie sheet 1/2 inch apart. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 to 45 minutes (less if cookies are small) When done, cookies should be firm to the touch. Turn oven off, and let cookes sit 1 to 2 hours to harden.
** I never let them sit in the oven. I turn them out on my wire racks to cool. Once they are totally cooled, I put them in glass jars. I usually make huge batches of cookies at one time, freezing what I don't need right away. I always keep them in the fridge, since there are no preservatives.
The girls are crazy for the peanut butter bones, too.

Thank You both, I made both tonight after work, I'll see what ones the kids like best (sad I bake for the kids, and husband had to get take out). I'm going to bag some up for the co workers and neighbor furkids as well.
For the record Clay gives paws up to both kind as she's sitting in front of the oven crying for more (she acts like she's starving in a 3rd world country), Rocky is sleeping already, not even for food will he leave the comforts of the big bed.

Both receipes are good. Mike is eating them as well as the Dachsies. I simply told him it was something that both him and the furkids could have. He thinks it is good that they can finally have some "people" food. I do not have the heart to tell him that they were for the furkids and not him in the first place. It is funny in a weird sort of way - all these years that I have been telling him that the furkids could not have anything he was eating and now he can give them a some bites of "his cookies" each evening.

My hubby would feed them everything he ate if he was allowed to, it took Teak going down with back problems 5 years ago to convince him to stop sneaking them whatever he was eating. Teak was only 2 pounds overweight, but when the vet told Mike that it contributed to the back problems, he immediately stopped giving them what he was eating (and he likes things like hamburgers, french fries, tacos, and other junk food). These cookies are not hurting Mike either, he is about 15 lbs overweight and these cookies just may be the answer for him since I can not get him to eat fruits and vegetables for snacks. Gee, the things we do for those we love! LOL! I hope to find more good receipies like these two for both my hubby and furkids.

I use this recipe as well but mine has one egg and 2T molasses added to it which makes them fluffier and a little sweet. My daschies love these and I like them too dipped in coffee in the morning.
